Rifle Scopes General scope question

not necessarily a brand, but what magnification and reticle placement (FFP or SFP) do you think is the best all around for known and unknown distance shooting out to 1000yds?

How/why would you recommend a 3lb scope which hasn't even been released to market yet?

Opinion is based on the quality of the two vortex optics i own. Im assuming the gen to will be equal or better based on reviews ive read on here so far. Weight wasnt mentioned as a concern by the op. It is a heavy pig, but whats another pound or so on whats prob going to be a heavier rifle anyway. And if the rifle is built light, theres room for a little extra weight. Also, 4-27 is a wide magnifaction range that should cover almost all ranges. I think the price is even cheaper than March scopes which are the only ones im aware off hat have such a wide range. Just my .02

I'd rather allocate extra weight to the barrel than the scope. New(er) designs are going lighter and smaller, example the 3-18 Mk 6, and the unreleased Vortex scopes are the exact opposite. Leupold's Mark 6 is a tick under 12" and about 23 oz's. So not only is it 2.5" shorter, its about 1lb lighter.

Either way, I would't recommend something without actually using it first.

The scope would be mostly for shooting paper, but would like to get into steel at some point.

For paper you want 30+ zoom on high end. For steel and moving targets 10x-ish.
