A few months back while going over a couple of details on a rifle build George asked me if I'd be interested in testing and evaluating a new prototype hunting rifle GAP is bringing out....ARe you kidding??? I said hell yes!!! He said I could use it, abuse it, and shoot the hell out of it for a year.....grin!(a lousy job but someone has to do it!)

Well I got my hands on it yesterday, got it home and and just happened to have a S&B PMII 3-12X50 laying around...and a pair of Near Manufacturing alloy low rings 34MM.I quickly assembled 10 rounds of ammo using WW brass, H4831SC, F210M primers and 185gr Berger VLD's. After a quick bore scope job and two shots at 100 meters, I ran a target out to 300 meters, dialed up 1.0 mils and fired 5 from the bench. I think this rifle has potential!!

Anyway, a little sneak preview.....way more details to follow.

Re: George Sent Another One!!

Man, I shoot groups over twice that large with my Browning 300wm (time for a new non-typical!!). A nice action like the templar does wonders for accuracy, as well as a top notch barrel, scope, smithing work, and stock! ha...

Is this the same templar action they put on the crusader?

thanks,dt

Re: George Sent Another One!!

a 3 position safety would be a good option for these guns, something to keep the bolt locked down while walking through the bush with the bigger bolt handle....i have shot one of these before and they are great!!

Re: George Sent Another One!!

Barrel is a Bartlein #3 1-10.5 Twist 5R SS

Action Templar Hunter (By Glen Harrison Defiance Machine)

Mag Box is extended for 3.00 OAL

Bottom Metal, Custom Steel made for us By PTG (Dave Kiff)

Stock, Custom made at B&C by Wade for GAP (us) , takes up to a Rem Varmit Barrel.

Rail, Custom made 15 MOA by Seekins (Thanks Glen)

We have several different camo patterns available for the stock. Mossy oak, Realtree, Atax, Crye, NAT Gear, and solids with black web.

Available in WSM, RSAUM, RCM Calibers and Std 308 based calibers.

Thinking about LA version but I really dont see the point as a 35 WSM will smoke a Grizz and its not meant to be an elephant gun.

Needed somone to put it through the paces and give some honest feedback, couldnt think of a better guy than Pat to do that.

Im not a big fan of 3 position safteys as they have to be lined up perfect to work properly. On Winchesters they work ok but thats a totally different trigger system.

Your Dad was the first to ever kill anything with one.

Where were you this weekend me and your Pop had a blast. We will miss you this Elk Season.

Re: George Sent Another One!!

George, That rifle is driving tacks with Nosler's 180gr Accubond at 3100fps.

We're going to SW Montana for a Shiras Moose hunt next week. Hopefully my younger brother will be killing a nice bull moose with it...

Re: George Sent Another One!!

I'd say this platform has a lot of potential, good long range accuracy with manageable weight for hunting. Be interested in reading about the load development.
