Like some f you I have been intrigued by the new mid engine Corvette

GM is booked up with all 2020 allocation being sold... and 1/2 of 2021 being sold...

I know that the market for exotics has ground to a halt- Trade in prices on Ferrari and Lambos is 50% of wholesale....


Here is my question- Should GM use this production halt to ramp up output of Corvettes? Will people looking for a fun car opt for a Corvette over say a turbo 911, Ferrari or Lambo?

Similar performance- no quite
Drive 100K before tune up- yes
Cheap service- yes
Daily Driver- yes
Insurance allows you to drive more than 5K per year- yes


From a hype perspective- no one want an night club that has no line...

no one wants to dine where reservations are required a month out...

Regardless of production numbers, the 2020 base model will no be interesting once the performance models (Z06 and whatever comes after) debut.

How many people give a crap about the 2014 Vette? The 2006? The 1997?

I love the new C8 Vette. It looks amazing, and if it doesn't have some fatal flaw, I think it is an amazing value. That being said, it is still out of my reach price-wise.

I am hoping Ford does to the mustang what chevy did for the vette. Bring the car up to date on the interior, have great performace, and not send the price through the roof. Mustangs all look like they came out of a time machine from 2005 on the inside. Great car on the outside, cheap plastic interior and outdated gauges on the inside. So much potential. Even the fiesta is cooler inside.

in the mean time, maybe the C7 will get more affordable.

2020 was actually shut off early the other day due to the strike and now the covid19(cant get parts). They had planned to build 30k cars.

2021 ordering opens in May I believe(could be April) so your statement of "1/2 of 2021 being sold" is simply false because order books arent open yet.

GM has stated they would build as many C8 corvette's as they had buyers for. They can build ~30k in the 2 shifts they are running for the first time ever(Corvette has ALWAYS been a single shift car). My guess is they plan to do that. I dont think they have a plan for 3 shifts since they just started 2 shifts for the first time ever.

I will buy one in like 3 years depending on what happens with the economy.

True on the Z06 performance... HOWEVER... There are already Twin Turbo setups for the factory base model that will push over 1000 horse power for a SMALL fraction of the cost difference. It is something to think about. We have a 2015 Stingray. It is still a VERY formidable vehicle. Super smooth and very quick.

Been wanting a C7 for a while and I'll bet when this Chinese virus hoax blows over they will be a steal. Corvettes don't hold their value well as it is, and given that people will be losing their jobs, businesses closing, etc I expect a lot of bargains to be found in a few months time.

No there isnt...

Hennessey(that coke head crook) system is bull shit... Its not even hooked up on the cold side(they claim it is) and it will do nothing but idle and lightly rev because nobody has cracked the ECU yet and my guess is it will take a LONG TIME to crack it, if ever...

Take a look at TJHunt on youtube. They are in the process with Sheepy Racing of a twin turbo install on a new C8 with an easy tune that is said to be around 750 horse.

Sheepy will break the ECU. Take a look at their shop they create some wild rides.

The 2020 Corvette is built on what GM calls the "Global B" architecture. It has cybersecurity features that will be, uh, challenging to defeat. Everything is breakable with time; however, this one is going to be a tougher fight than usual.

It wont shock me that somebody will crack the ECU, but how long will it take and at what cost...

C7 ZR1 ECU is basically the same as the Z06 ECU with a few tweaks, yet to crack it, you have to send it in and I believe HP tuners cost is like 2500 bucks...

The new ECU and architecture is substantially different and I dont know that anything like it has been seen before.

Like I said, wont shock me when it gets cracked, but its going to be a beast I believe. Its the first ECU(I believe) to incorporate OTA updates.

its going to take more than just a few guys at some shop to break this ECU...

im not arguing any of that. I just dont like it when claims of stuff existing are made, when those things simply dont exist or are complete bull shit to begin with aka Hennessey's "twin turbo system"... Show me a C8 with a twin turbo setup on it making legit HP on a dyno with a cracked ECU and then my interest will be piqued. Oh and make sure the half shafts dont snap going down the track...

Ive got a 2019 Z06 M7 that I will be keeping for a long while. Its faster than the base C8 in just about every way. Base C8 will probably out 0-60 it because if its weight distribution and ability to put power down, but beyond 0-60, my car is faster than the C8 in every way... and my car is 100% stock.

I learned this when my wife just had to have the newly redesigned 2014 Impala when it came out. Buncha little piddly problems. Now she wants the stupid looking new Blazer...wtf? I asked her if she learned her lesson with the Impala. Chicks.

The Gen 1 cars are in the mid to high 200 range and are huge pieces of shit when you look at them.

The Gen 2 cars, the resale is controlled by Ford still as far as I know.

I have a buddy that wanted to buy a Gen 1 Ford GT. He looked at 3 or 4 and said they are 10 foot cars, but when you get up close they are junk. He couldnt bring himself to spend 250-300k for one. He's been looking for a used manual Lambo last I checked.
