She was a great actor with a huge body of work outside of MASH. I'm sorry that she's gone.

But I have to say her negative comments...her strong objection to the "hot lips" nickname (its disrespectful of women, blah, blah, blah) seems to indicate she had no sense of humor and took herself way to seriously.

Cheers

Nurse Cutler and Lt. Dish had a better butts ;-)

Yes, they did! And I know this first hand (in the case of Lt. Dish) as she was featured in her own Playboy spread around the time of her playing the part in M*A*S*H.

Trivia Quiz: The actress who played Lt. Dish in the TV series (only season 1) had an earlier career in Music. What is her name, and her former position in Music?

But Hot lips was hot lips and an icon! Sad to hear she is gone! She will live on in reruns forever!

Sirhr

Yes, she was. I'm actually pleased that she was able (eventually) to befriend Hawkeye Pierce. I recall the episode where Pierce and Houlihan were stranded out in the jungle and "sustained" each other in the night... Hmmmmm.... It took a while, but later they became solid friends and I think Hawkeye stopped calling her "Hot Lips" and started calling her "Margaret." I shall not forget that "40-50 sec." kiss Pierce and Houlihan shared in the Finale episode as she and the nurses were leaving.

Saw Alan Alda in a new show recently.
Sadly, he does not look like he is much longer for this world.

Believe it or not, I spent my Jr. & Sr. HS years at a private HS where Alan's two daughters (Bea & Liz) were in attendance. I knew them both well.
I recall coming out of the nearby "Acme" grocery store in Leonia, NJ (where the Alda's were staying - about a couple of block south of me In Englewood, NJ). Bea and Liz waved to me and I waved back, before they got into a brown station wagon that Alan was driving. I recognized him instantly. As a further point of Trivia, it was the same school Gene Shalits' childen attended as did Brooke Shields, a few years later.

That show reminds me of liver and onions, 60 minutes, and all the other shit I was force fed as a kid.

Well, they did have an episode ( "Adam's Ribs") where Pierce Kvetches about the monotony of the menu in the 4077th, which contained "Liver or Fish" as the entrees. Thus, Hawkeye's cry: "Were not going to take this "DREK" anymore (google it). WE WANT SOMTHINE ELSE! WE WANT SOMETHING ELSE! THey got a delivery of RIbs frm Adam's. But before Hawkeye could sit down to enjoy them, the choppers came.

Trivia Quiz: The actress who played Lt. Dish in the TV series (only season 1) had an earlier career in Music. What is her name, and her former position in Music?

Her name was Karen Phillip (now Karen Phillip Probst) and she was one of the two female singers of the Bossa Nova band, "Sergio Mendes and The Brazil 66." Phillip was the backup female singer to Lani Hall's lead (Hall, eventually married Herb Alpert and they've been married ever since).

During Phillip's time with the group, they produced their main album "Fool on the Hill" a Bossa Nova based cover of the Beatles' tune from "Magical Mystery Tour." It (the Brazil 66 cover) was a hit when it came out, even more so than the original Beatles tune. For a time, I thought that the cover was, actually, the original.

The Beatles' original:

The "Brazil 66" Cover: The lady on the right is Phillip. Lani Hall is on the left.
