I'm building another 308 and looking for a handguard for it, free-floated rifle length. Something like a YHM 5005 that is smooth on the sides with a top rail and removable side rails would be great. Any thoughts? So far the only thing I've found is the PRI 308 rail and it's ~329, was kind of hoping to spend about 200.

I have used both the Daniel Defense 12.0 and the 12" PRI handguard. These were on Armalite style rifles though.

Weight between the two I feel is negligible and both have held up well. I sometimes shoot slung up, so the PRI is more comfortable to hold, but the 1913 rail on the DD lines up perfectly with the upper receiver. I am not sure if this is the case with the DPMS style as they have a higher rail.

As compared to what? PRI at $300+, DD $300+, Samson $300+, but $185 is ridiculous?

nOT SURE ABOUT YOUT BARREL LENGTH? BUT I DO KNOW DPMS BUILDS THIR BARRELS HEAVY AT THE NUT IF YOU ARE BUILDING A HEAVY OR MEDIUM BARREL! SO! WITH THAT IN MIND GO WITH DPMS UNLESS YOU ARE BUILDING A LIGHT BARREL!
