Just like all the other crap reality tv shows on right now, "American Guns" is no different. I just saw the owner of Gunsmoke Guns quote a guy $19,000 for a custom build with a Mcmillan TAC-50 Action, Montana Barrel, some stock that didnt even fit the action and was not bedded (which was painted with some flames and skulls of course), and a IOR Scope. WTF!!!!!!!! The money shot was when the guy shoots the side of a huge barn at probably 800 yards and the barn explodes, you know just like in real life. Its nothing more than amazing what people can get away with on these shows. Just thought I would share...

Id say that one of the things that I love about America is the right to do business with anybody that you want to. Vendors have the freedom to charge what ever they see fit for their services and Buyers have the freedom to spend however much they want.

Yup, that was the driving concept behind the Flobee, the Chopper, and that cat litter box that cleans itself.

99% of the stuff that comes in those shops are shills for the production company to get the people at the shop to make something interesting for the TV viewers.

Every now and then I put American Guns on in the back ground while I'm working on projects and need to kill the silence. That guy is a complete tool. It's like an even more douchier version of Sons of Guns. I could rant about this for hours but the language I'd use would probably get me banned. Then again, if I was a complete turd-waffle like them maybe my shop wouldn't be going out of business at the end of the year.

While I can appreciate the story, the fact is a guy walks in off the street with a nice rifle and a good story, and I think that the shop owner paid about $500 for a good story.

The 458 Lott one was a Winchester 70 pre 64 action when it came into the store and a Montana rifle Company rifle when it was done. that is why it cost 3500.00 to do. They just replaced the entire rifle.

How can you tell a rifle was used at Normady? By serial number?

I don't think so. I have a Garand made in Aug 1941, (306***) I paid $112.70 delivered to my house in Anchorage from DCM. I could "say" it was used at Normandy, Bastonge, or where ever, there isn't anyway to prove or disprove it.

All I know is it shoots good, and fits well in my USGI rifle collection.

But if he wants to pay $1500 for Garands, I'll call CMP, make up some stories to match the serial numbers and get rich selling to this idiot.

The serial number , according to the episode , matches the date and the time it was supplied to the Navy for the invasion . Also the grenade launcher marks on the stock makes it around that time . The salt water marks on the finish are not definitive proof , by contrast .
Sounds like a very vague story, very fuzzy ... and this guy , always paying on cash , with that bag full of money carrying it all over the place along with some gold bullets ... weird Doesn`t he knows that a check is more secure and easier to carry ?

    Someone on here should get a written estimate for some work .... and post it up on here. That way we can all have a good laugh.[/quote}

Good luck on that, I tried. I have a steel floor plate for a Model 70 Winchester 375 H&H. Every since I got the rifle (in '74). I always wanted it engraved with a lion attacking a cape bufflalo. I asked for an estimate and they wanted me to send them the rifle. I only want the floor plate engraved. They still want the rifle before they would give me an estimate.

See no reason to ship the rifle and wont.

Past sheriff candidate faces jail sentence

    By Jonathan Ellis

A former candidate for Jefferson County sheriff faces six months in jail after a judge found him in contempt of court on Friday.

Rich Wyatt, a Wheat Ridge gun dealer who unsuccessfully ran for sheriff in 2002, has three months to pay his ex-wife nearly $90,000. Judge Chris Voisinet also ordered him to turn over two guns to the woman. Wyatt has three months to meet those obligations or spend six months in the county jail.

It could have been worse for Wyatt. George Johnson, his ex-wife's attorney, sought a second contempt charge related to 100 nude photographs of the ex, Rebecca Wyatt. Johnson argued that Wyatt had not returned all of the photographs despite a court order to do so. The photographs that Wyatt did turn over were scrawled with lewd comments.

Wyatt argued he did return all the pictures, which he called "pornographic nude photos."

Wyatt has been one of the more colorful politicians on the local scene. In 2002 he bought an ad in Soldier of Fortune magazine offering a $100,000 reward to anyone who killed Osama bin Laden with one of his rifles. His website, www.gunsmoke

guns.com, features pictures of him with George W. Bush, John Elway and other celebrities.

Wyatt also favored loosening restrictions on concealed-carry laws, arguing that law-abiding citizens have the right to carry handguns virtually anywhere. Wyatt's Gunsmoke Gunsmithing store in Wheat Ridge offers training classes and African safaris.

In July 2002, a county judge ordered Wyatt to pay Rebecca Wyatt $4,100 a month. Wyatt was awarded two properties in Wheat Ridge during the divorce hearing.

However, Wyatt failed to make payments to Rebecca Wyatt. He told Voisinet on Friday that he didn't earn enough money to meet the $4,100 obligation.

"I'm not going to pay," he said. "There's no way. I don't have the money now, I didn't have it then."

Johnson countered that Wyatt had plenty of equity in the two Wheat Ridge properties to pay Rebecca Wyatt. He also produced bank statements from Wyatt's business showing he had more than enough money.

Wyatt and his attorney, David Gloss, argued that Wyatt's personal account and his business account were separate entities.

He also refused to hand over the two firearms to Rebecca Wyatt, saying he would violate federal law if he does. Wyatt said his ex-wife isn't eligible to own firearms under federal law and that his firearms' license would be in jeopardy if he gave her the guns.

Wyatt argued that Johnson and Rebecca Wyatt wanted to put him in jail to ruin his political career. Wyatt said Friday that he plans to run for sheriff again.

Friday's hearing was marked by bitterness between Wyatt and Johnson. Wyatt accused Johnson of throwing some of the nude photos in a court trashcan, and he demanded that Voisinet have Johnson arrested.

"I want him arrested for destruction of evidence," he told Voisinet.

Johnson called Wyatt a "scofflaw," and accused him of hiding his money with a fraudulent accounting system.

"He's a very, very aggressive, dishonest man," Johnson said.

In the end, Voisinet agreed with Johnson. He gave Wyatt three months to sell one of his properties to pay Rebecca Wyatt or go to jail.

"I'm going to give you an opportunity to get yourself out of this mess," Voisinet told Wyatt.

But when Voisinet told Wyatt to also turn over the firearms to Rebecca Wyatt by Jan. 22, 2005, Wyatt said he wouldn't and he stormed out of the courtroom.
    </div></div>

And thats just the tip of the iceberg

I guess I'm the only one that can actually stand the show then, I do like it much more than Sons of Bitches.

The daughter is pretty fine, and it seems like the smiths 'may' know what they're talking about.

I don't see how people get so involved in the show, and get mad. It's freaking reality television. It's supposed to be mindless entertainment, if you don't want to watch it, don't watch it. If they can get away with their prices, let em go at it, it's not our fault that all the customers are uneducated, and don't do a damn bit of research.

I don't know his history, and frankly I don't give a damn. If he doesn't have good prices, then I'm not going to buy from him.

You have no idea on how true your statement is. I live just down the street from their shop. The daughter is clueless as the come. She has to get help on everything she does, even when someone came into the shop for a box of .22LR. Have no idea on their gunsmithing skills, but it can't be all that great.

So you're saying that as long as you're entertained you could give a rats ass how this show or those like it portrays the average American Gun Owner or Gunsmith??? Also you are saying that you have no issues with someone or some business blantantly screwing someone because their customers "are uneducated"???

Yea, guess I understand where you are coming from, after all 'entertainment' is first and foremost with all us in good ole America.

Just took your educated comment to jar my morales, values and integrity into perspective!! Must feel good to be the only rocket scientist in the room???

I believe the show's entertaining, I find the fact that they charge people out the ass, that the daughter doesn't know shit, and that people don't know shit about their guns, hilareous.

You obviously don't care that "it portrays the average American Gun Owner or Gunsmith" enough to do anything but sit on your ass and whine about it on the internet.

Hmmm, in my world, the importance list goes as shown:
    1. Family/God
    2. Work
    ...
    X. Entertainment. I watch television MAYBE a couple times per month, and it happens to be one of the shows I watch. My idea of entertainment is hunting, shooting, camping, and anything outdoors.

If you're getting so worked up because of my (some guy behind a computer a few states away) post, then I think your train of thought derailed somewhere.

You also forgot to say, customers also have the right to tell the middle guy and especially the manufacturer to go fuck themselves when they are just being plan greedy. So tired of this fixed pricing crap on building, buying, MAP, etc.... Yup you don't have to buy, but get insulted by the rediculous prices isn't cool either....Its getting old. LoL

The problem , the way I see it with this tv series is that we are "connoisseurs" on the trade and any irregularity on firearms would be detected right away ...
Many people have no idea at all of the world of firearms("you know, those very dangerous devices that kill people for nothing all the time and are hated by democrats") so, according to some producers, there is always a window of oportunity for programs of that nature .
Personally, I got the impression of this guy , Rich, in being a sleazy type of person , although I cut be wrong.
The whole program is a charade .
