Re: Handgun Loads- ALL CALIBERS-

FWIW those loads are all VERY hot. Unless you're running a stouter recoil spring you're most likely going to bottom out the recoil spring and batter your frame.

The other load I mentioned several posts up, 200XTP with 9.8gr of Blue Dot is about the border of what the OEM G20 setup can handle without battering the recoil spring. Take it for what it's worth, please work into the loads.

I tried 12gr 800x under a 135 Nosler in my KKM barreled stock length G20 and got 1675fps. That's 2 grains shy of the IMR listed max load. I got flat WLP primers with that load. I will back off 1gr. and use CCI primers next time.

Re: Handgun Loads- ALL CALIBERS-

This is a 44 Magnum knockaround load I developed for my Step-Dad's Virginian Dragoon 44 single action revolver. It is satisfyingly accurate and still hits hard enough to be a great small game load, but won't tire ya' out like the full-house magnums can. And while I haven't chronographed it, velocity should be around 850 fps. That's middle of the road 44 Special velocities from the bigger case, but no fouling ring in the chambers of your mag from shooting the shorter cartridge.

240 grain cast SWC
5.0 grains Titegroup (it's not position sensitive, so even with the small charge velocities remain uniform)
CCI Large Pistol primer
Any brand 44 Magnum case
Medium crimp

Re: Handgun Loads- ALL CALIBERS-

bohem-
not sure what your experience is using a load of 16.0 red dot in a 44 x 240gr swc, but that's about twice any reasonable max load for same. sure you don't mean 6.0? that'd make a great double action practice load at about 850fps or so. would think 16.0 would be so far over any sensible load, it'd blow the gun. possible you meant "blue dot"? hope you don't mind the comment, but it stuck out like a sore thumb to me.

My pet load for 45 ACP, Kimber Team Match II is as follows:

230 gr. Winchester FMJ
Win. Super Target (WST) - 4.5 gr.
CCI 300 Primer
Seated to 1.250" and crimped with a Lee Factory Crimp Die

This is a good soft load that I enjoy shooting, and can handle 200 rounds an afternoon with. Very little muzzle rise.

I can shoot ragged holes at 10 yds. with this load.

Per Hodgdon direction, I put a pretty tight roll crimp on.
While Hodgdon has 23 grains as start charge,
Speer #14 has a start charge of 22 grains which is what I went with.
Im looking for a very warmish not hot cartridge.

DISCLAIMER, I have not shot this yet...stay tuned, gonna try it later this week.

Update, velocity for 25 rounds came out to 1184 FPS. Accuracy was good. I might upload by a half grain and see where that takes me.

CCI 500 Primers

-Cycles slide fine in MY pistol but the empties barely clear the pistol. My recoil spring is also probably due for changing. Recoil is so negligible it feels like shooting a 22. Ran the light loads from 4.2-4.8gr a tenth at a time.

My Moderate Loads
Frontier 180gr FMJ
6.6gr Power Pistol
CCI 500 primer
1.125 OAL

-These feel pretty close to factory ammo. I didn't have a chrono handy. There is primer flow on the CCI's but no more so than American Eagle Factory loaded 180s. No glock bulge. Could probably go up a few tenths but there is no real reason and if I went up much more I would feel the need to weigh each charge instead of every ten.

I've stuck a bunch of different 230gr. jacketed bullets on top of 6.0-6.1gr of Unique and had good accuracy with all.
I've used Federal/Winchester/CCI primers in all with no issues as well.
For an easy plinking load with good accuracy it's hard to beat.

Don't use a roll crimp for 9mm. It head spaces off the case rim. Use only a taper crimp die and just remove the flair.

The taper crimp is not used to keep the bullet in place, that is what the neck tension does.
