Hawkins Bottom Metal- Rough Interior Corners?

Just got a Hawkins DBM Bottom metal, haven’t ever gone with Hawkins before, but noticed the interior corners are a little rough to the touch and look to have what looks like the finish peeling, is that normal? Not sure if I’m just being picky lol

Usually their parts are super clean. Call them about it. See what they say.

Anything I have or ever had from Hawkins has been first class.

I asked the distributor I got it from, Mile High, said all of the ones they had also had those mill marks. Perhaps they got a weird batch like this?

Looks normal to me. I just checked mine. I have a gold anodized one I got a long time ago from a different vendor and the corners look the same. My bottom metal is highly used at this point in its life and all the wear marks from metal mags are in different spots.

Install it, slap a magazine into the bottom metal and then see if it's visible....
Or just use it and never look into the dark recesses again.

My thought also. Hunting buddy had a gun built by Joe Walls who used @Terry Cross KMW bottom metal and it’s a beautiful piece of work. Just surprised o don’t hear it being used more often.

I was going to go with KMW for the bottom metal, but then I figured I’d just go the “tried and true” recommendation of Hawkins

You can always return it and order the KMW.

Anything Terry Cross/KMW makes is tried and true.
TC is a top shelf guy too.

Never met the Hawkins folks though only a ways away, and based on what I hear, would say they are too.

I have DBMs from both. And BDL from Hawkins.
All of them work without issue.
If you want that perfection and next level QC and CS, go KMW.
His cheek hardware is the best too.


Now if he will just release the Zealot chassis for sale as a stand alone item to buy

Also looking forward to some other things he has in the works…..

Shout out to the Hawkins guys, called them up and they got me return immediately. Build looks great now and my OCD is appeased.
