Too bad it rarely goes the other way…Some 25 years ago, on Easter morning, I woke in a Buddhist Monastery that I was living in. Mornings were silent until noon with the exception of morning chants for 45 mins, at 7am. Then 30 mins of meditation.
After chants we made our way to breakfast in the dinning area, observing silence. On the chalk board in the dining area was a message about Jesus honoring Easter. I can’t remember what it said but I was struck by this act of tolerance and respect…..
I spent a couple weeks at the Abbey of Gethsemane, a Trappist Monastery in Kentucky. Silence is very powerful. I remember growing up in rural virginia, going outside late at night after the crickets had stopped, and how quiet it was. I miss that and the total darkness. Some 25 years ago, on Easter morning, I woke in a Buddhist Monastery that I was living in. The Christian faith in which I was raised has replaced kindness with arrogance.
Well, that was arrogant…Were what you say to be true, the Christian faith writ large being this arrogant and unkind, it would seem unlikely you would see such widespread debauchery throughout the Country. After all, the country is still largely Christian, or at least people call themselves such.
I think it's rather the opposite, actually. I think it's that Christianity is so kind, in fact, that it's easier for cowards to attack it than it is to defend it.
I suppose time will show the wisdom of that path. Those who have faith would say it's a treacherous one. It seems to be one you've chosen to walk, though.
Well, that was arrogant…
Not worth it. Please have a happy EasterI'd love to see you articulate how.
I think a lot of the 'wokeism' comes out of a general ' bleeding heart christian' belief in helping your neighbor. Sadly they miss big parts dealing with "If you wont work you dont eat" and "Let there be no sexual debauchery" and a few others. Were what you say to be true, the Christian faith writ large being this arrogant and unkind, it would seem unlikely you would see such widespread debauchery throughout the Country. In my prior life I worked midnight shift for a 30+ sq mile township. I could find a few (almost) light free areas to watch the stars and listen to the few night sounds. I’d sit on the hood of my Crown Vic, watch the stars, and contemplate my insignificance. It was a kind of meditation that kept me centered. The drone of frogs and the songs of coyotes were like music.I spent a couple weeks at the Abbey of Gethsemane, a Trappist Monastery in Kentucky. Silence is very powerful. No matter what you believe you have to admit that for a man that never traveled more than one mile from his birthplace Jesus is the most well known figure in human history.
Not worth it. Please have a happy Easter
Thats why I like the desert, specifically Big Bend, where the silence is so complete it pierces my tinitus.I spent a couple weeks at the Abbey of Gethsemane, a Trappist Monastery in Kentucky.
