Another reason it's good to be a Texan. My buddy teaches the shooting class for Vertex Helos in Houston. We just got helo hog hunting here and their 4 phone lines ring all day. Their also starting to work with some local LE and most guys find it to be much more difficult than they anticipated. I may have to try it if demand ever settles down. Found these vids-their still using the Bushy AR I sold him, but they have signed w RRA since:

BTW I'm not affiliated with Vertex.

Re: Helo Hog Hunting in Texas

Yeah, it ain't cheap. Those birds are expensive to fly, though. Before I knew better, I thought the 556 might be a little light for those tough buggers, but the XM193 they're using speaks for itself in the vids. Man, looks like those hogs have fattened up well on their diet of crops. According to Texas Wildlife Management, 60-70% annual eradication is needed just to hold population to the current est. of 4 million hogs in Texas.

Re: Helo Hog Hunting in Texas

There's an article in the October issue of "Rotor & Wing" on this very subject.

Not that I want to (re)open that can of worms, but according to the article, some of the lessons that Chase covers in the aerial ballistics course are Coriolis effect, gyroscopic precession, and trajectory shift. Thinking back, lack of knowledge on "trajectory shift" must be one of the reasons why I SUCK on Helo stages at RO?...

Good luck to all of you "Pork Choppers"!
