Looking for opinions on those that have looked thru both. I’m pretty much set on the Burris unless someone has a legit reason why I shouldn’t go with one. If you have a better option in the same price range let me know

This will be going on an AR 15. Would like to be able to use for both semi quick target accusation as well as a semi precision rifle if needed. I have no intentions to use as a comp gun. I will qualify and carry for LEO.

I’m thinking the ballistic dot in a second focal plane. I had a vortex pst 1-4 on a duty rifle years ago. Didn’t really care for the extremely small reticle on 1x. Was hard to pick up without illuminated and don’t like to trust in illumination in a shtf situation

The circle dot may only come in ffp which I’m not opposed to. Just want to make sure I can see it easily enough without relying on the illumination

Let’s hear your opinions. Thank you in advance

IMO for LE work I’d go ballistic dot. I guess it boils down to what you’re familiar with. I like the cleaner sight picture of the ballistic dot versus circle dot and resembles more of a traditional red dot.

Here's a really good review of the Burris by ILya K (DLO):

I got one for my AR15 with circle dot and have used it so far at the range shooting paper at 100 and 200 yards. The small center dot is great for that at 8X. I don't have any problems finding the circle at 1X without illumination. I like it a lot.

If I remember correctly, circle dot is the FFP model, while ballistic dot is the SFP model.

I prefer FFP for scope of this type and the circle dot reticle works very well in this scope. I have one and use it all the time. Given what I do for work and for fun, I can have and use anything I damn well please and I use this one. Not that it matters, but I figured I should point it out.

I'm happy for the most part with my Burris XTR2 in FFP with circle dot. For precision on 8x the .1 mil dot is awesome! On 1x the circle works great, it's super easy to acquire and encompass with a large circle and just happens to be the size of a man's head at 15-20Y or chest area at 60-70Y. FFP so leads and wind are accurate at any magnification.

For the money it's pretty good.

I had the XTRII FFP 1-8 when they were relatively new. Shot it for quite a bit, and can say it was a great scope and reticle. I believe I had the circle dot since it was FFP. I used it as a red dot on 1X, and really liked the reticle.
I only sold it to fund my NF ATACR.
I sold it to a good buddy on my team, and he’s still using it.
For a 1-6, I like SFP fine. At 1-8 or above, I prefer FFP.
