Hey guys,

First post here, though I've used the forum for searching, I finally have gotten around to registering/posting.

Anyways, I currently have a Remington 700 ADL in .270 win (24" Sporter barrel, long action, blind internal magazine obviously). I definitely hate the look and feel of the factory "plastic" stock and plan on putting a nice stock on it, and why go half way when I can get some of the best in the business. Though I may not be shooting for 1000 yard competitions, I will be putting the rifle through it's paces with range days, and regular hunting. Which brings me to my purposes...I get to the range about once a month and then the rifle sees 3-4 weeks of hunting a year. I hunt a property where we ride golf carts out to elevated blinds and shoot from rests. (We rough it, lol!). Carrying the rifle is not a problem since we don't have to walk a great distance (No more than half a mile), and once we get to the blinds we shoot like we're at the range on tables and rests.

Stocks I'm thinking so far are an A5, Game Scout, Game Warden, or A3 Sporter. I really like the look and feel of the vertical pistol grip that you get with the tactical McMillans. Also as far as ordering, only the A5 and Game Warden can be ordered as of now online, the rest would take a good deal while longer to be made. I'll rarely shoot prone, if ever honestly. The field grass is too tall and the range doesn't have areas to lay down on...Which points to the Game Warden/Scout/Sporter right?

Anyways, drop your suggestions and please don't be afraid to post pictures of what you got, I love looking at some eye candy.

I like my gamescout. You'll probably need a cheek riser of some sort for a proper cheek weld. I use a triad stock pack. Redhawk rifles has a hand full of them in stock for a 700 long action. You may want to look into the new greyboe terrain too. Cheaper, better cheek weld, flush cups included. Will be a little heavier but shouldn't be significant if you're not carrying it far.

I would say Mcmillan A5, although I don't have any experience on a Game Warden model.. it's hard to beat an A5 in my books, even for an all-around do everything stock. I would recommend getting an adjustable cheekrest while your at it.. Manners,Grayboe have some nice stocks too, unless your dead-set on Mcmillan, just my $0.02

Your Sporter barrel is gonna look like a toothpick in an A5. If you like the look & egonomics of an A5, then go with a McMillian A3-5. The difference is just a slightly narrower forearm which would work with your barrel profile better and they are about a half pound less, otherwise the are like an A5. Having said that, I too would give serious consideration to a grayboe (McMillian's son makes these) stock. With the injection technology grayboe is using, they are very stiff and rigid but light and considerably less money that an A Series.

Yup, a GameScout compliments a #3 24" barrel quite nicely. Added a 'God-a-Grip' cheek riser on this one to gain a bit of height & level the comb out...

I was only on the wait list for a few weeks for a adjustable Game Scout for my Tikka. Not a custom stock, from the retail store. My point is that the wait isn't that long if you're not having a custom one made. That Game Warden stock, not presently inventoried, is a very nice stock for a Rem 700.

stocks are so personal because we are all so different in measurements, but with that if you plan on hunting and prone shooting the only recommendation is that you get adjustments.
there are few if any of us that can go from Prone to bench to off hand while being comfortable and having repeatable accuracy.eye optic relationship.
then you add in a few layers of clothing when hunting in the winter (if you do), and your length of pull can change by 1" or more.
that nice open clear scope picture becomes a really small tube.

Alright so I checked out those Grayboe's and I really like them. I'd have to do a BDL conversion which I think I'm going to do anyway. Only issue is the Renegade is only inletted for a Varmint barrel. So here's my plan...Buy a Long Action, BDL, Renegade. Viper scope, talley rings, Timney trigger. Shoot the snot out of it. Eventually re-barrel with a Bartlein, Krieger, or similar Varmint contour barrel. I know the factory Sporter barrel will be lost in the Varmint channel but it won't hurt anything other than aesthetics. And once I re-barrel that will be fixed...
Thanks for the help.
