Ok guys, after doing some research on what Id like my build to be I came up with this. How does it sound and can you see any improvements?

rem 700 in .308
mcmillan A3 stock
schneider or kreiger barrel
Badger M5
harris bipod
nightforce 3.5-15x50mm

Re: heres what Im thinking so far

I was thinking of the 24" 6- groove 1:12 twist schneider barrel. Also the badger bolt knob. Wheres-Waldo, Im open to suggestions...lol.

Re: heres what Im thinking so far

Sounds ok you may like the A4 better just my opinion. If this is your first build may go with a cheaper bottom metal like a williams unless you need the dbm. free up some money for other gear and a good set rings and base.

Whose going to do your build?

Re: heres what Im thinking so far

I was thinking of either the M4 or the M5 bottom metal. I have nightforce rings and base, are they ok? As far as whos gonna build it, that was going to be a question after I acquire all the parts. I was ask on here if any of the gunsmiths would do it and about how much it would cost. bub308, would you change anything else?

Re: heres what Im thinking so far

I would go with a shorter barrel like luv said. I have a 21 inch on my 308 balances out pretty well. Maybe a muzzle brake my rifle is suppresed. Your rings and base are gtg.

You may check out some websites like American precision arms,
Ga precision for prices. There are others here who can build you a great rifle as well. APA has done both of my custom rifles and there great. My current rifle is being done by someone local.

Re: heres what Im thinking so far

I had my Surgeon switched over to the Badger M5 system, feed problems are gone! My next project will also include a detachable mag system. I also think a 26" barrel is a good idea becuase you can get at least one set back on it. 1 in 12 is great for 155 gr bullets. I'm at 3600 rounds down range and I figure I just passed the half way point on my barrel. A 308 will give you good barrel life.

Re: heres what Im thinking so far

Lowlight's gladius has an 18.5" barrel and makes is to 1k.

As far as going longer and setting it back, .308 generally has a barrel life of over 5000 rds. When the barrel is shot out you'll have spent WAY more in ammo than the rifle cost. At that point what's a few hundred dollars for a new tube? I'll take a shorter handier rifle anyday!!
