I have a .270 and am curious if that bolt face will work with a 6.5 284. I know, I know it may be dumb, but had to ask just in case. Its a 98 Mauser if it matters. I know many Rem .308 and 30.06 bolts work on a number of other calibers. Pardon the stupid question. Thanks

yes, its the "standard" size bolt face for both.. same as the 308 as well.

Yes. Ranger1183 provides an excellent picture of where you cartridges are interchangeable. Most notably the "head". It is .473". The difference between the 6.5-.284 and the .270 is length And base diameter. If you'll note the .270 base is still .470, almost the same as the case-head. Whereas the base of the 6.5-.284 is .500". The recessed head allows the case to be chambered in a shorter action than a 30-06 based case needs to have, yet still retain the capacity of the 30-06 based case.

Might be even easier to run it as a 6.5-06 and you will pick up one extra round in the magazine. Case capacity and working velocities are almost identical.
