Ok hear is the deal I posted in the Bolt action rifle section last week. Long story short, guy owed me money, guy gave me rifle in excghange for money. The rifle had a SEALs scope on it. The first thing I was told is that scope was junk and to ditch it, so I am doing that. To be honest though I don't know crap abput scopes nor am I honestly going to learn enough in a few day to really make an educated choice. So I am putting my faith in the Hide. I am prob going to get about 300 for my SEALs scope. I am trying to keep around the 1k mark. I will prob never compete with this, It will most likely make it out to the range once a month and maybe make a shot over 500yrds a dozen times in its life. I dont hunt I just like to shoot.

P.s. rifle is a Rem 700 .270 on a Choate stock.

Re: Hide! Pick out a scope for me please!

I have been looking at Mark 4, Accupoint, NF, SS, and CZ. But I dont even know what size to get.I would like to order it in the next couple of days so i can have it by the end of the week.

Re: Hide! Pick out a scope for me please!

This may be a dumb question but I have shot a few lower end Bushnell's what will be the biggest differences I will see going from that to a $1k scope?

Re: Hide! Pick out a scope for me please!

What do you guys know about a Counter Sniper Delta DOH 328 2x16-44 with a TDRm Rec? My local shop has one for 600 and that what they are saying.

YES!!! Definitley go for anything Counter Sniper!!! If you can get one for $600 do so as soon as possible, then report back to us!!!!

Re: Hide! Pick out a scope for me please!

The previous post was joking. I hope your joking about the Counter Sniper scope because they are absolute garbage and NOTHING in their ads are truthful. They aren't used by ANY branch of our military and they are pieces of CRAP!!

Do a Google search of Snipers Hide,

CS scope discussions have beat this one to death.

Re: Hide! Pick out a scope for me please!

It was definitley sarcasm. Since we can't tear into noobs who can't figure out that there is a little over 14,000 different threads in the optics section(covering almost every scope from the cheapo pieces of shit to the top dollar scopes), and the fact that your question has been asked 2000 times in those 14,000 threads, I will refrain from telling you that you are retarded.

I will however, inform you that with some research in this section alone of SH, you will find tons of info on any scope out there, and YOU can make a decision on what scope to buy instead of asking us to choose for you.

shops like that are what you do NOT need.

Re: Hide! Pick out a scope for me please!

As I know I'm new here I understand what you are saying. Just fyi I did search the words "Counter Sniper Scope" b4 I even asked the question. I got 14,000 threads talking about snipersnide.com stuff. So I just knew if I asked it there would be a very helpful gent that already new the answer to my question, and wouldn't mind posting it up.

Re: Hide! Pick out a scope for me please!

Back to your original question, I would second the suggestion of a Vortex PST 4-16x50 with a first focal plane reticle (FFP) They are around $800 and are a very good value for the money. I shot with a friends rifle with the same scope and the adjustments were accurate and the optics were fairly good, not in the same league as my Schmidt and Benders, but the price isn't in the same league either.

Re: Hide! Pick out a scope for me please!

Vortex viper 6.5-20 would do you just fine for your uses and you would have 600 left over. Otherwise vortex FFP 6-24 PST would be right under 1k and the best you can get for the money.

Wow! Your timing, sir, is impeccable. About 5 minutes ago, I just finished mounting this same scope (I think of it as more of an art piece). I am absolutely impressed. More than likely, I'll never have S&B or USO money for glass, so between this and my SSHD, I'm getting pretty cozy. Whatta' scope!

SWFA is good to go and they post on here quite often so they'll take good care of you.

Re: Hide! Pick out a scope for me please!

Thank you again guys for all the answers. Check out the bolt action section I am posting up pics of the rifle and how my shooting went this afternoon.

Re: Hide! Pick out a scope for me please!

Why wouldn't you try the SEAL scope that came with the rifle before just tossing it, because someone told you it was junk. It might be better than you think. I would give it a try before I bought anything new.
Before I spent $1K I would see how the rifle worked first. You might have a rifle that won't group no matter what kind of scope you have.
Just my opinion.

Re: Hide! Pick out a scope for me please!

If your not ranging with your scope then I don't think you need a FFP scope. Thats just my .02. I would recommend a Leupold. If you decide to resale it would be easier to sell a Leupold then a Viper except on the hide. People that don't even shoot know about Leupold and there not a bad scope.

Re: Hide! Pick out a scope for me please!

I can say +1 for the SWFA 10x fixed, it has been awesome. Would I be happier with a Viper PST... most definitely. Would I be elated to find a S&B on my rifle one day, yup.... but right now i have a SWFA and with the $500 difference between that and the Viper, I also have invested in a LOT more shooting, since that's what its all about. F the specifics, get something that works well, and train the nut behind the trigger. My requirements have not left me desiring anything more from my gear. And that is simply, does it do what it is supposed to with out fail. All that said, if you want to spend 1k instead of $300, go for the Vortex Viper PST previously mentioned, as I have seen that to be a pretty good contender. But personally if I was going to spend about $900, I would go the extra for a NightForce. Side by side, there is a difference, but the Viper does offer a lot for its price point.

FFP really has nothing to do with ranging. </div></div>

My bad. I'm misinformed on the advantage of the FFP scope then. Sorry if I gave the wrong info.

From what I read, it's an extremely common misconception.

For me, the main advantage of a FFP is that it gives me properly calibrated feedback of the point-of-impact -vs- point-of-aim.

Re: Hide! Pick out a scope for me please!

The advantage of a FFP optic is the reticle is true at all magnification, not just the highest mag level like a SFP optic.

This why Aos can use it the way he does but it is also much quicker to range with at any power.

Re: Hide! Pick out a scope for me please!

When I said "ranging with your scope" I meant ranging target distance as well as reticle hold overs. If your going to be shooting once a month at most as well as maybe shooting 500 yards a couple times at most. I just don't see the use of a FFP scope. Typically a FFP scope is a little higher in price. I just don't see it for what he's wanting out of a scope.

Re: Hide! Pick out a scope for me please!

I was merely telling you and Aos what the FFP optics are for and why. You were correct in your first statement. FFP Optics are used for ranging, especially in shooting targets at unknown distances where you do not have time to adjust the magnification.

I agree with you that the OP probably does not need a FFP for his intended purpose but if he can afford it, it will not hurt him to learn how to use the FFP optic.
