This is an awesome lecture given by Steve Blank. It dives into how Silicon Valley was started due to WWII. He has some great info on how we and the Germans conducted electronic warfare during the war and some of the innovative ways we spied on the Russians in the Cold War.

Overall it was really interesting and entertaining. It is about an hour long but well worth the time.

Re: History of Silicon Valley

Thanks for sharing that. It was really pretty interesting to me since I grew up there as a kid. My maternal Grandfather actually worked for a couple of those companies before I was born and as a small kid. My paternal Grandfather was actually one of "those" college professors. I remember as a kid there was a radar station on Mt. Umunhum and I now have to believe that there was more to the story of why it was placed there.
