Anything that can take a pounding and keep soldiering on. Basically, a folder that ain't gonna fold up and crunch your fingers while doing serious work and fixed blades that ain't gonna break off because they are epoxied to the handle instead of being full-tangs, like a real knife is supposed to be... Whatever your selection for an EDC knife may be, the first and foremost rule is making sure that knife can stand up to the work you expect it to do.
