Rifle Scopes Horus Vision Preditor or Raptor

Re: Horus Vision Preditor or Raptor

The "Hold Over" reticles make it much easier to call your shots. I would go with the Raptor since it is in Mils it will help you reach a little farther.

+1 to that

Re: Horus Vision Preditor or Raptor

I'd trust the HDMR over the others. Owned both the other scopes and the HDMR. The HDMR is far superior. The other scopes didn't/don't track well. I have 2 Predators. They live on a air rifle and 22 now. I don't touch the dials except to zero the scope.

you can get the Horus reticle in a US Optic, Schmidt+Bender or a Leupold scope. Their scopes are Jap Junk! If it has to be repaired (like mine did) it has to be sent to Japan. Im still waiting for mine to get back. I sent it in April of 2005. You've been warned.

You sent a Horus scope in for warranty in 2005? WOW! Thanks for that warning!

Re: Horus Vision Preditor or Raptor

I have an old Raptor (10 years or so) on an AR10. 2-3 thousand rounds in weather ranging from -15 degrees to 90+ snow or rain it has done well. It has the old H-3 reticle with a MOA range finder in the upper left which I initially liked because I already knew MOA range finding. I was told Horus was using German glass at the time.

I have a Hawk on a hunting rifle. I have the rifle zeroed for 300 yards and with 8 mils on the reticle I can use holdovers to 800 yards. For closer shots, simply hold "under". This one has no parallax adjustment but was inexpensive. Quality seems OK but I have not been real hard on it as I do not hunt often.

I also have a Horus reticle in a Leupold on an AR 10 sass. This set-up is just over a year old and I could not be happier. I've been fully converted to ranging in mils over the years. I have a shooting range with 20" steel plates that can be set up at random ranges from 100-700 yds. One can rapidly range and hit targets. I really like the idea of hold overs. When shooting at targets of unknown range, one can range find the target, determine the proper hold over, watch for target feedback(bullet splash), and the simply measure the correction needed and add it to the hold over. It's fun.

Thanks for the input. a little more info that I forgot to mention. I have the raptor on my Next Generation Arms AR-15 and I love it. we shoot eggs at 550 yards and it's so much fun watching them explode. I'm looking to put another scope on a new Savage 12 f/tr to go out to 1000 yards. with the Raptor I can bairly see the 18" plate that I'm trying to hit.
