Re: Horus Vision Preditor or Raptor
I have an old Raptor (10 years or so) on an AR10. 2-3 thousand rounds in weather ranging from -15 degrees to 90+ snow or rain it has done well. It has the old H-3 reticle with a MOA range finder in the upper left which I initially liked because I already knew MOA range finding. I was told Horus was using German glass at the time.
I have a Hawk on a hunting rifle. I have the rifle zeroed for 300 yards and with 8 mils on the reticle I can use holdovers to 800 yards. For closer shots, simply hold "under". This one has no parallax adjustment but was inexpensive. Quality seems OK but I have not been real hard on it as I do not hunt often.
I also have a Horus reticle in a Leupold on an AR 10 sass. This set-up is just over a year old and I could not be happier. I've been fully converted to ranging in mils over the years. I have a shooting range with 20" steel plates that can be set up at random ranges from 100-700 yds. One can rapidly range and hit targets. I really like the idea of hold overs. When shooting at targets of unknown range, one can range find the target, determine the proper hold over, watch for target feedback(bullet splash), and the simply measure the correction needed and add it to the hold over. It's fun.
