How many of you guys are using 178 AMAX's for competition out to 1k+?

Well I have been loving the 178 BTHP's but they are now on the suspended list and I have more 178 AMAX's.... I primarily shoot 1k+ in comps and rarely hunt with this rifle. I know ballistics are comparable to the SMK.

I have found them in stock for $26 per 100 and really do not want to pay out the nose for Bergers 185 OTM Juggernaut. I am staying in the 175-190 grain range.

Used them for years when I shot a .308. They work very well. Shot them out to 1300 yards in matches. Pushed by some Varget they will do the job. I get them going around 2700fps in a 20" barrel.

Hey bud! It was on your suggestion that I went with the 178 BTHP in the first place. .530 BC worked very well, I wish these Amax's were a bit longer and more streamlined with a higher BC. I was using PP 2000MR and it appears to have a sharper recoil impulse over M118LR even when the load is pushing the same speed. For spotting my own hits I am a bit put off by it's performance in this respect. Although I am able to get the 178 BTHP to 2750+ without pressure signs with 47 grains in LC LR brass, CCI or 210 primers, all out of a 20" Bartlein barrel.

I remember seeing you shot your .308 at the ASC match. I shoot mostly 1050 and in at all my other matches. I only shoot further at ASC so the elevation helps a lot.

I've shot several matches out to 1000 with them and they performed admirably. I used 45 grains of Varget in Winchester cases, and got 2650 out of a 20" Krieger 10 twist. The last match I shot with that guns was the Bushnell Brawl at Rifles Only. I cleaned the the 900 yard tower stage with 5 out of 5, and got 2 out of 5 at 1000.
