So I got a call from a company that I subcontracted for in Afghanistan asking me if I would be willing to come do some genset work in Iraq. Since the whole setup in Afghan was top not I made assumptions and said OK book it. So now I am sitting here in the middle of the desert not a US service member in sight living in a tent for the next 3 months. Iran is like 3-4 clicks away. You can see the border from here.

I guess the lesson of this trip is to ask a few more questions and never assume. The last few times I have really done my homework on the situation. Woulda still came but woulda been nice to know about the tent ahead of time....

At least this trip there is a real IT guy here over the net and I have never had phone calls home work so well.

Hmm, an IT guy and full comms. So, when you said you'd take the "operator" job, you expected something else...

    "Hello, my name Peggy."

All kidding aside, take care and stay safe.

Depends on who "they" is. I dont work for KBR, Fluor, Dyn, or any of those posting up the numbers companies. I made 225k last year and have just been doing pickup work overseas since being laid off from that company. Even with at least 5 months at home this year I will clear 150k. Just gotta make sure I ask about the tent next time.

For those wondering, its pretty much down to a scale.

Companies listed above for Electrical whatever is about 120k a year shitty rules and weird people.

Smaller companies pay a bit more cause they hire the best since they arent trying to put boots on the ground. Decent to laxed rules and usually still weird but cool people.

Are you doing IT work over there? </div></div>

No we have a real IT guy, some office guy sent to the box for a spell.

I am an Electrician. "pickup work" refers to project based contract opposed to yearly based contract. I.E. I am willing to come work for 3 weeks or more with no issues.

If you are in Erbil anytime give me a shout but from your description I take it you are down south. Did it rain there at all today? Man the mud can suck when it rains in this forsaken country!!
