Ok, I’m an idiot. I have a Weatherby Vanguard which came in a MDT LSS chassis with a Luxe rear stock. The grip and my hand are not fiends. The trigger is too high for the way my fingers are curved. I ideally need a trigger shoe with about 1/4” of additional length, and with less of a curve in the shoe. So, what does dummy try and do? Well straighten the shoe (without using heat) and I ended up snapping the cast shoe in two pieces. Now that it is a mess, I need to have it tig welded back together. However, if I am going to do this, maybe it is better to just cut the old shoe off and add a longer straight shoe. My question is what material can I source to fabricate the replacement shoe from? Any ideas? Maybe the shank of a drill bit? (I think a straight shoe would work well). Does anyone have any ideas for me?

Have you tried different grips? A smaller grip like the Magpul MOE-K?

I'm with Don.. Try a smaller and more vertical grip without finger grooves. I have never seen the OP's rifle in person but looking at pictures I can see how many guys would have problems with the trigger. What is the chance the trigger is MIM? If it is it can't be welded. You could braze it but I wouldn't trust it. I wouldn't bother with trying to fix it. You can get a new one for $125.

Ok. I ordered a new trigger from Rifle Basix. I will send the old one to Weatherby to be repaired/replaced. I took your advice. I stole a Magpul MOE SL thin grip with beaver tail from another rifle. I used an ordinal dowel sander to radius the beaver tail to clear the Luth stock. I then removed the ramp on the aluminum MDT chassis, so there was no ski jump from the chassis to the grip. I then removed material from the magpul grip creating a new radius. I then took a sharpie to the little spot of base aluminum. It honestly looks pretty good. I think it fits my hand better, but I will have to wait to get the trigger to check. Thanks for the inspiration.
