I think I need a GIANT recoil lug inlet... Which chassis got em'?

Hey there guys,

Okay so... I'm interested in getting a West Texas Ordnance "switchlug", but the problem is, it's essentially a lug that needs to be pinned onto the existing recoil lug, so if I use an action with an integral recoil lug, I basically get a 2x thick lug... For example, 2x .350"..... That's around .700"! I called XLR, they can only make a recoil lug recess about .450 ish or something.

Now I understand that a stock like a Manners w/ bedding will probably work, but I wanted to see if anyone know of a chassis that could possibly hold this beast existed?
Masterpiece Arms? KRG? MDT? Anything.

If you're handy you can remove the lower "lug" portion and give it a .6" radius (or whatever your barrel is) and turn it into a clamp. It should still pin to your receiver. You could also just use a mill to reduce just the lug portion of the switch lug to say .200 or .150, or whatever to make it fit. I think integral lugs on actions are probably around .250 so going to .200 or just under should work for the xlr.

What action do you have? I think most actions with integral recoil lugs are usually .25 thick or smaller. Not an expert here so could be wrong about that. If your recoil lug is only .25 and the switcug is .35 (which I know it is that thick) then you only need .600 which at least saves some room.

I was looking at pictures online and it looks like there might be a couple of the chassis they could open up but many of them doesn't look possible. Hard to tell looking at the pictures though, not a lot of pictures looking at the bedding areas.

Goog luck let us know what you figure out because I was thinking about getting this put on when I get new barrel put on pretty soon. West Texas Ordance built my current rifle, I really like them and Clayton who owns it. You may give Clayton a call, there's a chance he already knows what chassis will and won't work. He doesn't always answer because I'm sure he is pleanty busy but he usually get back to me pretty quick and is always willing to talk and answer any questions.

I know off their website the offer one of the XLR chassis as an option for a build, I am highly interested in the switchlug and the 7 SAW for a build, if you call and get a chassis list, please spread the word.

Yes with there action or actions without an integral recoil lug most chassis probably are not a problem because then you just need 0.350" of recoil lug space.

The problem is if you already have an integral recoil lug they will pin the switch lug to it, this means you need around 0.600" of space for the recoil lug (integral recoil lug on action 0.250" + switchlug 0.350").

So if you plan on using the claymore action they offer or any action without an integral recoil lug your probably good to go with most chassis.

I also would like to get a barrel chambered in the 7 saw they are offering, it's pretty interesting.

Don't remember the measurements, and probably not what you had in mind, but I just read an article earlier today about the Magpul Hunter 700 stocks having a pretty damn big inlet area for recoil lugs.

Just a hunch, but for some reason I doubt he'll be putting that action into a Magpul hunter stock.

Great stocks for the money, probably just not a viable option for a switchlug setup.

I'd vote Manners with a proper bedding job and be done with it.

Thanks for the replies guys, I will be calling several different chassis makers as soon as they open this week. I emailed Manners regarding the max size for their mini-chassis as well. All I know for sure is that XLRs are impossible unfortunately. So far it pretty much looks like standard stocks with standard bedding is the only option for integral lug actions, but I'll update as this goes on.

Thanks for informing me that I may only need a .600 inch inlet area, I think that's correct. I don't really know what the recoil lug size is on the TL3s,

Talk with Joe Updike at Accurate Rifle Systems and he should be able to make you a stock that would work.

i talked to phil at mpa about this a couple weeks ago and he said he could make the recoil lug hole as big as you want it

Really? I just talked to MPA (i forget the name though) and he said they could only support up to a .315 lug (or something around there, I don't remember the exact number). I'll have to give em' another call I guess.

I did get an email back from Manners, it is possible for them to modify the Mini Chassis to do it, they would just need the action in-hand to do so. I could not contact KRG. Let me know if you guys find anything out.

HA! I have a Bighorn TL2 with an integral lug and have spent a good amount of time researching this exact topic. No luck so far. I emailed MDT this morning to see how big their recess is, and found this Xtreme chassis, but haven't contacted them yet. I'm considering picking up a stock R700 just to see how well the Switchlug repeats, then maybe try it on my TL2. Worst case is I have another rifle (prob 223) with a big ass recoil lug.

All you need is an inch pound torque wrench and you hands to change the barrel. You don't have to remove scope, stock or anything off of rifle to change barrel. It can be added to most actions (or will be able to in near future, if not already) and has good return to zero.

No progress that hasn't already been discussed so far unfortunately. Though I have recently put my SwitchLug plans on the backburner since I've just come to realize how short on funds I will be once my rifle is completed anyways lol.
