Thanks 1sikpupi, I've been unable to grab my friend's Remington 700 mainspring compressing tool all week, and after searching around I found your post on the uses of paracord.
I used a t-handled allen to give me something a little easier to hold while the spring was compressed and was able to swap my firing pin spring without the fancy tools. Getting the cocking piece's hole to line up with the firing pin's was a biatch upon reassembly, but it was doable!
Here's 1sikpupi's post resurrected from an old thread (not for the feint of heart and an extra set of hands would have come in very handy, but its a workable option):
