We have a lot of those also, but the wife prefers the Kerr and Ball lids for pressure canning. Reason being that you can see and hear the seal forming. If you can't get those, we have had good luck with Tattler.

We will also be experimenting with reusing metal lids as long as they are still "poppable".

We will see times when we will be "re-using" many different items that were discarded after one use.

Found this article on building a root cellar.

Priceless info... Thank you

For those with lots of $$$ that wait until the last minute to build... Here's the option:

Today’s prices at the lumber yard. Maybe its inflation. Maybe supply and demand. Either way its not good.

3/4 untreated plywood - $76.95
7/16 OSB - $59.95

I own a saw mill. Not a large one that came supply Lowe’s, lol, but it is a larger model.

I’ve had people if I can mill them wood to build a house.

I said sure, but it won’t be ready until a year or so, lol.

Cracks me up that they think wood goes straight from the tree to the hardware store.

An internal GOP document highlighted the dangers of unfettered inflation caused by the Biden administration’s massive spending packages. The memo, which came to light on Sunday, was sent to members of the Republican Study Committee last week by Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.).

Yep... I spent time running some concrete block plants. Everything went from the block machine to the steam kilns and then they soaked. Few people know that, in general, it takes concrete 21+ days to get up to strength...

I'll share a reply I got this morning asking about waiting time:

We are currently running about 22 weeks on that product line. You may be able to find one in stock or with a shorter lead time at Altus Shooting Solutions, Southern Precision Rifles, Front Range Precision or Northland Shooters Supply.

What are you looking for? Bugholes seems to have a butt load of these in stock. Custom configurations have always taken a long time. You can't possibly just run around the world thinking everything is proof of your wild speculations.

Prepare for extreme weather.....

Oh yes..... Construction screws, also.

These are my favorite because they can be reused on many projects. Up, up, up goes the cost.

Corn futures dropped on Tuesday as concerns about abundant supply whacked America’s biggest cash crop. Corn came under pressure a day after the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in a Crop Progress report that U.S. farmers had planted 90% of intended corn acres as of Sunday, ahead of the five-year average of 80%.

But, corn was selling for about $3.25 at the beginning of the year. Today it is up 106% from 1/1/21..... Ask a farmer how the corn crop will turn out, rather than a commodities trader. Just something to watch.

Just putting this out there, but commodity traders make a lot more money figuring out how the corn crop will turn out than does your average corn grower. I had a close friend who used to but in ungodly miles every year on this shit. Farmers, on the other hand, tend to go bankrupt a lot. No disrespect to farmers, but hedging is a pro game.

Beef prices have been going crazy here.

A jump in price of almost 11% in just one day. Foreign countries are paying a premium.

My nearest Costco and Walmart are 50 miles away. I make several stops, for supplies, in that area in an effort to make the trip worthwhile. Those trips were always expensive. Now, they cost more even though I'm getting the same supplies.

Don’t tell Costco executives that inflation is low.

The big-box club chain said it’s been seeing accelerating prices across a range of products, including shipping containers, aluminum foil and a 20% spike in meat prices over the past month.

I heard that the Biden admin is doubling the tariff on Canadian lumber. That should help bring prices down

increasing input costs will continue. We are now mixing liberal monetary policy with trade wars on scarce goods being sourced internationally while having our own means of production hampered by low employee count.

if you have low output in your country due to the fact that socialist programs are encouraging everyone to stay home on thier ass, how is pissing off the hand that feeds going to help? Since the cost will be a pass-through to the consumer you are only fucking them.

And if you DID get the stores to begin sourcing inside the US you still have the problem of low employee turnout at the mills which just causes additional backlog of lumber demand due to low output and further increases the price on what is available. This is a total shit show and looks more like socialism every day.

And don’t think for a minute that US lumber companies won’t do like aluminum corporations did during the Trump administration tariffs- they raised thier prices AFTER the tariffs and were still more expensive than what you could get internationally.

these decisions are political in nature. They have to be. They are too stupid to be educated conclusions. Unless they all got drunk and turned the supply and demand curve graphs upside down, that would make sense right about now.

It shocks me that we can find two people, much less two Presidents, who still think tariffs are a good idea.

And stand-alone “get back to work”incentive programs not tied to any infrastructure program will be coming soon enough. With an ad campaign if I’m correct. It will take another half billion or so. Hide and watch.

Minimum wage, regulations and a host of other govt. "input" fuck up a capitalism.

Less govt is not a bad idea.
You are preaching to the choir on this one. I can't believe some places are even going back to rent control.

The places that are going to "Rent control" are they freezing property taxes to match?
Somehow I bet there won't be a freeze in property taxes, so what happens when you can't rent for what the property taxes are???

It's mostly in CA, so they have frozen property taxes which they are always trying to unfreeze.

Paid a little over $45 the other day (2 weeks ago) for 2 full sticks of 1.5" 14ga square tube.

Today a single stick of the exact same stuff was $65 and change.

Anyone got any lube they can donate? Gonna be a long 3.5 years and my sphincter is already chaffed. 🤕

About to hit $70 a barrel.
Do you realize that pre Covid crash, Oil was at $64/bbl. In 9/16 it was at $73/bbl. Of course, it was much higher than that for the preceding ten years.

Again, that's not to say that there are no inflationary pressures, and certainly Biden's policies regarding energy are shit, but basically the markets are telling you that, coming out of Covid, oil demand and prices are expected to be just about what they were before we found out covid was a thing.

Can't survive this type of harm for 3 more years.
Nope, they ha e really accelerated their plans to destroy this country.

All that talk last year about build back better, well here it is in action.

All the "you're crazy" comments I've gotten over the past year about covid, yeah I just laughed my ass off yesterday after that email leak.

Getting difficult to ignore where the bottom line is going to be.... Food.
___________

Global food prices have jumped at their fastest monthly rate in over a decade, according to the United Nations.
The UN uses a broad index of global food costs, which have also climbed for 12 months in a row.
Suppliers have been affected by disruptions to production, labour and transport during the pandemic.
Concerns are growing about broader inflation and how higher grocery bills will impact the world's economic recovery.

Another bad jobs report. Big decrease in construction jobs. This is what I meant by high, but balanced, risks.

Many things are changing in the "Oil Arena"... Ripple effects in all directions... The rest of the world is moving away from the USD for oil trading (Petro Dollar)... The last new refinery was built in America in 1976... Sure, we have oil but can we convert it into fuel ?... Food production / transportation depends on oil.. We can't eat oil.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that European nations should pay for Russian gas in euros. This comes as Kremlin moves to dump the dollar after US sanctions.

Off the Gold Standard with Dick and Hank..

Snip
The dollar was pegged at $35 an ounce, and freely exchangeable into gold at that rate. However, by 1971, convertibility into gold was no longer viable as America's gold resources drained away. Instead, the dollar became a pure fiat currency (decoupled from any physical store of value), until the Petrodollar Agreement was concluded by President Richard Nixon and Secretary of State Henry Kissinger in 1973.
