have been looking at the new rem sps tactical rifles. am rather hesitant as i have had a few bad experiences with rem factory guns and have heard some horror stories from some very trusted scources. i can't afford a lemon and remington CS sucks from what i hear. the configuration of the gun,cost and weight are about what i am looking for. also, the hogue stocks have a rep for flexing,which can't help. don't want to get a $6-700 rifle and start throwing away parts. just like some hands on experienced input. also,the sniper central entry level guns look like they might be an option,dollarwise,using the howa option. can't find a tikka scout,or would go with that. they don't seem to exist anymore. any comments or hints would be apreciated.

If you have a bad taste in your mouth from remington, then dont get one. My sps tac is a shooter, but I did replace the stock and trigger.
There are alot of options available right now, TAC-Cord selling the FN-SPR's, there are used FN-SPR's, there is always alot of nice used stuff here on the hide all of the time from complete entry level stuff to barrel actions to high end stuff. If your patient and save your cash, something will come along that you'll be glad you waited for.

You could always save another 3-4 hundred and grab a milspec 5r. Mine has been awesome, averages .6moa for every5 shot group i have ever shot from it at 100 yards, with none over 1.25 and many in the .2 range. At 1100 or so it is a great value as most seem to shoot that way, but i have seen some sps-ts that shoot that way too. Good luck, no right answer, they are both production guns, so no guarantees i guess.

Savage maybe? I don't own one, my precision rifle is a SPS-V and it needed some changes, but I looked hard at the savages, and they've come out with some new models that look interesting. They're alledged to be very good shooters and generally priced reasonably. Thompson center makes a couple "tactical" rifles, don't know about price, and doubt there's much aftermarket, but they have a 1/2MOA guarantee. Low end is low end, doesn't matter the brand, these days that means injection molded stock, barreled actions are often the same, triggers vary in some brands. I like Remingtons, and my newest shoots well, but several things about it are/were very disappointing when compared to the older 700s.

I am happy with both of mine (223, 308) but I have replaced the stocks in both. Both shoot very well for factory rifles.

Here as well SPS-V in 223 and 308 and sps-T in 308. Mine do what I want them to. Then again I reload.
Sounds like you would prob be happier with a Savage.

I have a SPS Tactical and love it spent the xtra money for a HS stock and timney trigger.With the right loads it will Shoot 1/2 and every once and awhile a little under.

Sounds like you've talked yourself out of a Remy which is a shame; I've not yet had a really bad one. I got a good deal on a Rem 700 Carbine the other day. It dates back to 1962 with a five digit serial no. The fit, finish, and overall function just seem to say, "I give a shit" by the factory at that time and I have to say until you lay out some bucks for a 5R or a PSS, you don't see that now days in the new ones. I do agree that regardless of make, you shouldn't have to start replacing parts on a rifle as soon as you get it in order for it to shoot.
Second on the Savage; good shooters out of the box for a decent price and they hold their value if want to sell it.
