I'm looking for information on IOR scopes with 1/8mil adjustments. I've never used any milliradian type reticle or used mils for ranging in any way. I'm specifically looking at a Dragunov Reticle model.

Just wondering how good a 1/8 mil adjustment can be especially if you're trying to correct quickly for a shot that's a few inches off at an odd number of yards. Calculators have made me painfully slow in doing math in my head. Is there any trick to making quick compensations without having to multiply 1/8mil(0.45"@100yds) by other factors to get the adjustment?

I also noticed the older IOR scopes only have dials going up to plus or minus 5 making the in the neighborhood of 2.5 mils in the positive or 9" @ 100yds. Has this ever been problematic in ranges out to 500yds?

Re: IOR scopes with Dragunov reticle

I'd use mil-based data, instead of MOA if your adjustments are in mils.

That way one click(1/8mil) is is .125 mil, two clicks .25 mil, etc...

Maybe I just don't understand exactly what you're asking.

GC,
Let's say you're shooting at 375 yards and your shot goes 2.75 inches to the right. How many 1/8 clicks of correction do you dial in?....without using a calculator and 10 minutes to figure the answer.

Re: IOR scopes with Dragunov reticle

1/8 Mil is roughly .45 inches at 100 yds. So given that you are at say 375 and 1 full mil is 14.4 inches at 400 yds you would roughly need about .1 or .2 mils

inches for a full mil at various distances
100yds- 3.6
200yds- 7.2
300yds- 10.8
400yds- 14.4
500yds- 18
600yds- 21.6
700yds- 25.2
800yds- 28.8
900yds- 32.4
100yds- 36

these are roughly how many inches 1 full mil would move you at these distances

Re: IOR scopes with Dragunov reticle

I have a better and much faster method.

After the shot, put the scope back on the original point of aim.

Note on the reticle where the shot impacted.

Put that exact point on the center of the target, assuming that wind conditions have not materially changed.

Smoothly press the trigger to the rear so as not to disturb the lay of the sights.

Totally agree, That'd be the smart way to go about a quick following up correction shot. Works every time!
