It goes allot deeper than just AB. Vanguard is a behemoth investment firm, they handle a insane amount of money primarily from 401k’s. Vanguard keeps a social justice score on major companies, if your social score is too low they will devest from your stock and they are so large it can cause a major drop in value. They basically extort companies into bending to their sense of equity. I don’t know if this played a part in the budlight fubar, but there had to be a reason why they would hire that marketing woman who is without a doubt your typical woke airhead that doesn’t have a lick of sense. The reality is with Vanguard and Chase on their woke crusade, this won’t be the end of this type of trash.

Larry Fink and his firm Blackrock, which is a full trillion-plus larger than Vanguard, are even worse and State Street is right on their heels. Never mind other holdings like state pension funds and whatnot, who are very activist based leftist investors.

These funds are taking our 401k holdings in mutual funds, buying actual stock we cannot vote, and voting them the way they want. They forced Chevron to wastefully and laboriously monitor and reduce GHG emissions at all their locations, and forced new environmental activist board members to be seated at Exxon Mobil. They're also the largest shareholders of Ford and GM. Does anyone really think competitive pricing is happening between the two when the same institutions are the largest shareholders of both companies at once?

Buy as much single stock in your retirement funds as you can and vote your shares every year, and move your vested money out of the activist firms as fast as your can into your own separate holdings.

Me personally, I'm taking a hard look at Strive (though they don't even have a year on the books), just haven't figured out how to get my company's 401k funds out of Vanguard (sole provider) and into there or similar non-ESG investment based firm yet without the tax hits. It's pretty much worth it for me to not bother with 401k matched funds to stay away from Vanguard all together.
