Notching. Which is more effective on older pulse doppler. Modern AESA not so much.

If a lab radar can pick up a bullet with battery power, think of what a multiple kilowatt array can detect. To change the filtering to look at small slow moving targets would definitely mean you are tracking birds.

Russian to English in google translate is horrible both directions with some ludicrous results. Russian sentence construction is very different from English. Russian has many words with zero cognates in English. And Russian verbs of motion don't translate well to English. Finally the French and German influences on Russian went in different directions.

GMO did not save anything. It was proper variety selection, proper tilling and soil management, planting right and the right time in the correct soil, and fertilizers.

All this began in the Dutch farmlands during the stress of the Spanish invasions. The revolution also occurred in trading, ship building, printing, manufacturing, etc. It spread to England. Both were desperate to fight off Catholic Spain.

right. I would never trust it to translate a lengthy phrase or anything colloquial. In this case, I showed a native speaker the original and the translation I received was very close to what the poster put up.

I suspect this wasn't a firing position but an ammo storage and resupply or maybe just a motor pool. Either way it does appear that it was a valid military target.

So you’re an academic with no personal experience living in Russia. If you go back in read through, you made it personal from the start, questioning my experience with geography and immersion that clearly rival your own claims.

I then addressed your incorrect statements about the situation, which are quite easy to break down, while agreeing with you in several areas. It isn’t emotional, just the facts. I’m anything but a nasty person. You’re reading into it with the wrong signals.

On one hand you’re an academic used to lecturing others, but on the other you can’t read a few short paragraphs with diagrams to help with systemic ADD. Which is it? Argue the merits, which will place you in direct odds with geographic and historic realities that you should know. I’ve taught in the former USSR, former Russian Empire, and lived all over Russia. Having friends is one thing, but living in multiple Russian cities will give you an interesting perspective that can’t be gained from what your friends tell you.

Most people go through a honeymoon stage when traveling abroad, are limited to tourist attractions, short stays, then dasvidanya. Very few get to see the internal rot and structural problems far from major attractions.

A lot of academics from the Soviet times were fed so much retardation, that they learned neural pathways that can’t be overcome with the facts. I saw some of that, though academics are few and far between there after generations of brain drain, brain flight.

One reason the US has been able to engage in so much Quantitative Easing is that Trillions of foreign money has been flowing into our economy for the past 3 decades. Businessmen in other countries have seen the ground-level structural problems and are investing in the US at gargantuan proportions. Even with all the foreign investments and foreign creditors wanting a piece of the action, they don’t hold the majority of US debt. We do.

I added up all the years of just foreign direct business investments (FDI) from 1997-2019, and it came to $3.845 Trillion. This is one reason why Congress and multiple Presidents haven’t worried much about QE. But now interest rates will hike up, which should help shift the foreign investments into other than residential real estate. That has caused an unprecedented hike in our average home sale transaction prices.

The voting manipulation is another issue, but one that I also have been extremely upset with not only for 2020, but for decades. If we don’t get that under control, people will feel left with no other alternative but violence. The elites in the top 10 industries that control Congress aren’t worried about it though, as long as Americans are fat and happy sucking down their corporate garbage products with low unemployment rates. The US is better insulated than anyone on earth for the coming global meltdown, and they know it.

My proficiency in Russian is a level 4.

Russian verbs of motion are notoriously hard to translate to English. And they have verbs for every kind of transport you can imagine. Planes, trains, automobiles, walking, running. And have they left yet, are they about to leave, are they on their way, are the almost there, have they just arrived, have they been there a while? Are they talking about a particular area in Russia or terrain feature? Just talking about Ukraine, they use different word combinations vs any other area. All this means something and most Russians are very very picky about this.

When I look at any online translation tool, or any linguist, I ask myself, "Would I take a platoon somewhere to do something based on this translation?" Or that person's skills? Its fine for a gist but its useless beyond that.

Radiation increased the number of random mutations to speed up the selection process. Dwarfism meant less lodging (when plant falls over in wind or rain), less energy into stem, and shorter growing cycle to use the moisture better before it got too hot for C3 process to work. All this was well understood and so were the goals. Borlaug was able to communicate this well and set the goals too.

There were a lot of old widows, as well as widows in their mid-late 30s.

One of the things that you see after a while in Russian culture is that they have an extremely reckless approach to life, and are reserved to their terrible lot in the world being frozen and isolated from the trade routes. Peter the Great tried to address this as best he could by building a city on a swamp that would have reach into the Baltic, and is the father of the Russian Navy. I spent a day touring the Peter the Great Naval Museum in Saint Petersburg on one of my 8 times going through there.

You don’t see a lot of happiness in Russia. Most of those guys who drank themselves to death in their 30s and 40s did so because of the women, not for many other reasons. A Russian woman can be a thing of terror, not that they have a patent on it, but combined with the lack of sunshine, extreme cold temps, no vibrant economic activity, and you see why Russia is a dreary place where dudes just say eff it, pass the vyodkya.

They were far better off under the Czars. The Bolsheviks ruined that nation and there isn’t anything they can do to reverse the course I’m afraid. If you ever get a chance to behold the misery of Krushchev-era apartments, they are one of the most depressing things I’ve ever seen or visited.

To me this "bombing" appears to be internal explosions, similar to demolitions. Can artillery, or aerial bombing cause explosions that look like these? Seems like we would see the shells, or bombs hitting, first. The blasts are coming from under the roof tops. I've only seen war footage of artillery and aerial bombing and they never looked like this.

I have already stated the inaccuracy of any English to Russia translation using google, you revisited that and I again agreed. I have also stated that google translate can not be used for anything complicated, beyond a word or two of direct translation.

So, I am not sure why you are continuing this thread. Do you disagree with the translation, if so please state what is fundamentally wrong with the translation which the other poster provided.

Strategically, I see 3 major outcome possibilities with this war:

1. Putin eventually successfully takes Kiev, occupies, then deals with a drawn-out counter-occupation fed by other nations who don’t want this spilling into Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Poland, the Baltics, and Finland. That’s literally the best-case scenario (for Putin) and it will still add extreme volatility to the region and world. The tactical nuke option still is a very possible threat in that situation, so the uneasiness in Europe would remain and get worse.

2. Putin’s own cabinet (and what few rivals remain) don’t like the loss of forces, world humiliation Russia is imposing on themselves, and Putin executes even more of them as protestors continue to organize and demonstrate, especially mothers of sons who have been killed thinking they were going on exercises. Internal pressure builds against him, which he won’t back down from. Frustrated with opposition at home and the lack of progress in the war, he escalates the types of weapons to include TBMs, worst case even a tactical nuke. This guy isn’t the type of person who backs down from his commitments and he can’t afford to now. This is the path I think we’re headed down.

3. Internal opposition formed from a group of his former colleagues who run Russian Oil/NG/mining multi-billion operations see no long-term benefits to this, and organize an assassination, then one who is already chosen takes the throne and announces peace from Russia for the foreseeable future, everyone can calm down now, they just want to trade with other nations on favorable status, let Ukraine do what they want, with some major attempts to negotiate economic deals for Russia that will mitigate their bad position in the world and depressed economy.

This would be the best option for Russia and the region/world, as it would rapidly de-escalate the conflict and allow Europe and China to take a deep breath. Because right now, everyone is on edge about what happens next.

Russians use Chechens in all their wars was so also in Soviet times. Some folks are more expendable than others.
*on the other note for all practical reasons is as close as you get to claim when things get dire you send in black soldiers from Illinois. 'Snackbar's' are are part of the Russian federation millions of them.

Nothing. Nothing at all. It would appear the best hands for Russian made weapons is anyone that is not a Russian. Certainly a better performance than the preparatory training done by the Southern Military District before the invasion.




Everyone thought the Russian MOD released this to lure their opponents into a false sense of security. Apparently, it was just a precursor to their performance ahead.

Have you seen the way many of the "Patriot" or "Prepper" or "Militia" types tend to train for the coming (insert whatever name is in use that day for the great time of fighting somebody or other)?

It seems folks at all levels don't quite get how a two way range works until they have recently been on one.

Also meaning no disrespect to the followers of the Prophet, it's a fair bit different having a two way range in the lands of the sands,
Compared to fighting on a two way range with people that have a fair bit higher IQ, more training and lots of good weapons.

Lieutenant-General Andrey Mordvichev was the commander of the 8th Army of the Southern Military District. The video shows a Southern Military District training exercise preparing for the invasion.

Lieutenant-General Andrey Mordvichev was the fifth Russian general killed in this war.

It’s weird there wasn’t a huge influx of foreign fighters from the west anywhere else there’s been fighting . Yeah there was a chunk joined the peshmerga, but nothing like this. Why didn’t they join the military here if they want to fight so badly? they had plenty of time the last 20 years.

In an interview with CNN, Zelenskyy spoke about his prior communication with Joe Biden and NATO leadership. Within the interview Zelenskyy said (emphasis mine):

“I requested them personally to say directly that we are going to accept you into NATO in a year or two or five, just say it directly and clearly, or just say no,” Zelensky said. “And the response was very clear, you’re not going to be a NATO member, but publicly, the doors will remain open,” he said. {CITATION)

So, privately NATO and the Biden administration were telling Zelenskyy Ukraine was never going to be in NATO, yet they told him they were going to publicly act like the possibility existed. There was no way for Ukraine to enter NATO, but they were going to pretend he could. Why would they do this?

They used Ukrainians to launch waves of human assaults into Finland in the Winter War. Knocked out 2 birds with one stone for Stalin by wasting as many prime age fighting males from Ukraine, and taking back Finland simultaneously. Well, at least he accomplished one of those goals.

Same for Chechens. Russia still struggles with managing Ingushetia, Dagestan, and Chechnya. Russia has been running death squads there, with ethnic cleansing, counter-occupation attacks, reprisals, and all that goes with trying to subjugate a people in the Caucasus, one of the main geographic border regions between Russia and their Southern historic rivals in Turkey and Persia.

So the Chechen fighters are being used differently. Hired guns for one reason or another are hired guns. Saying that Putin has called them in because they are getting their ass kicked is not factual.
It's funny listening to the generals of the past and all the other mouth breathers going on every channel to tell how" Putin's goals" are a failure. Who the Fuck actually knows what his plans are? Definitely not some has been ass kissing general out grubbing for money from CNN.
