No.

But you will get to see them at 3am. During a no knock warrant serving.
Would be a good reason to hire some Veterans in the local PD. Need people with experience to maintain them.

Yes, but most here won't see my POV regardless of how legitimate it is. I'm sure I'll be called bias and I support militarization of the police force. I'll just leave my opinion, that yes, I think its reasonable and necessary if used for the correct purposes.

Why not Bradley's? They'd be "safer" with a 25 mm chain gun. Besides, better to distribute that stuff around where we have easier access to it.

It's not necessary, and many of the small towns that jumped at the opportunity are going to find that maintaining them will not do their budgets any favors, especially if they do not have an appropriate mechanic on full time staff already.

My buddy told me his department would love to have one, so they could keep it for the minimum period (1 year, I think he said) and then auction it off like they do free HMMWVs.

I think the answer is in the question.

What else should the DoD do with them? Pile them up in junk yards...? Scrap them? Or better yet, give them to the Iraqi or Afghani military/police?

Everyone is so quick to scream, "they bought all the bullets up, now they're riding around in MRAPs!!! Our days are numbered, boys! Hunker down!"

...The sky is falling, the sky is falling...

Our local sherriffs had theirs all painted tripple black like those fancy rappers. They drive it to the my gunclub where they shoot, "if thats what they call it". Its sucha waste of money and the team is loaded head to toe with all the Gucci gear money can buy. I spent 2 years in Iraq, never seen a SEAL team/ Force Recon/Pre marsoc or even contractors with as fancy gear. Lucky Im friends with a few deputies, bc I tell them how silly they look because none of them shoot for shit, yet bling bling head to toe with gear they will only use in fantacy.

I'd suggest selling them at auction to the people that paid for them originally. Strange as you may think, PDO's operate at almost every base in the USA, and some abroad. There is a mechanism for the "disposal" of excess equipment, in place, it has worked for many years. This would not, and does not include weapon systems. You would be amazed at the number of military vehicles that are Privately owned in the US. Hope this helps.

Fear never killed me. An MRAP might. The cops dont need this crap, its just a big power trip. But they sure could kill a lot of unsuspecting dogs with one of those. Make them feel like real men.

ne Florida couple found out the hard way that though these rights exist in theory, the modern federal government feels free to play fast-and-loose with these concepts.

At approximately 6:16 am on June 10th, 2014, Kari Edwards and her live-in boyfriend were seized upon by a SWAT team who smashed in the door and using flashbangs and armed to the teeth, swarmed upon the couple and even stripped Ms. Edwards naked in the process.

The couple says that the group entailed personnel from DHS, for whom Edwards once worked. After smashing in the door, the tactical team threw in flashbang grenades, traumatizing their cat and swarmed upon Edwards’s boyfriend and Edwards who had just gotten out of the shower.

“They busted in like I was a terrorist or something,” Edwards said.

“[An officer] demanded that I drop the towel I was covering my naked body with before snatching it off me physically and throwing me to the ground.”

“While I lay naked, I was cuffed so tightly I could not feel my hands. For no reason, at gunpoint,” Edwards said. “[Agents] refused to cover me, no matter how many times I asked.”

“I have never been in any trouble before,” Edwards later stated. “Haven’t even had a traffic ticket in over ten years.”

The couple claim to have seen several different agency uniforms and Edwards repeatedly asked who they were and why they were there. Edwards claimed that they would only identify as “police” and refused to identify why they were there.

The couple has surveillance cameras which caught much of the action. When they were discovered, agents turned the cameras toward the wall.

After two hours and after the agents had thoroughly trashed the house, Edwards was given a warrant signed by Jonathan Goodman, a federal magistrate judge for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida that authorized the agents to search for computers and electronics.

Edwards’ boyfriend fixes up old computers but she claimed that the police barely looked at any electronics and did not seize any of the electronics in the house.

Like so many recent instances regarding federal militancy, the root cause of the police action can be justifiable while the manner in which police are investigating alleged illegalities is wholly inappropriate. If the police had a warrant to search for electronics, it’s possible to have executed that warrant without the firepower once reserved for Army Rangers going door-to-door in Fallujah.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean the bastards aren't out to get you. :)

I'm not sure there's any nefarious intentions behind this but why the hell do local cops need a mine resistant vehicle? When is the last time someone robbed the local Quickie Mart with an IED? Seems like a colossal waste of money...oh wait, it's the government so by comparison is only a minuscule wast of money

They are already paid for. So we might as well get some use out of them.

With the state of the world today it seems only a matter of time till someone starts shooting RPG's in the states somewhere.

And Maggot, Govt will never be perfect but they do have the power. When abused that is what courts are for. But I guess you don't like courts either. If you think its effed up work to change it, bitchin won't do anything.

Why have a military anymore, if we are going to have a militarized police force.... Its absolutely a waste, and will only lead to more unnecessary deaths (which have more than doubled by police forces recently). I think an officer even on duty should be tried for murder when they make a mistake.

Unfortunately the courts are about as dirty as the police. I could prove it by examples, but that wouldnt prove anything to you as you already have the answers and are a little yes man to the powers that be. You will make a fine houseboy for some bought and paid for politician. I doubt that you will get it but check out the picture below.....

If you've ever seen a local SWAT team procure an MRAP you would know that the joke is on them.

MRAPs ride too high to see the traffic in front, they don't seat many people, they don't carry much stuff, they're a pain to get in and out of, they roll over easily, the hydraulic doors are a hazard, the heat sucks and the air is worse, there are no spare parts available, and anything you mount on top of it will take out telephone wires when you cross a driveway.

It's another case of not knowing that what works for the military doesn't necessarily work for LE. I've seen departments buy .40 cal MP5 and 7.5" ARs on the same kinds of 'gotta have the cool stuff' assumptions, and then learn the hard way why what they bought doesn't work for them.

MRAPs do look mean when parked, though.

Houseboy...LOL Maybe, but I don't sleep with a pistol in each hand like you must.

Have you guys ever had an intelligent debate where you did not make snide personal remarks about those with whom you disagree. I do understand that anything more structured than Anarchy is evil to you all. But the rest of us know unstructured Liberty is anything but.

I have a question....who would be allowed to live in your perfect world? I mean other than those of the same mind as you.

there is no use in debating intelligently with statist stooges like you. The best policy is to insult you while collaborating with fellow patriots on how best to remove your ilk.

Already paid for and could be sold to...I don't know, Israel or some other country that might actually need them and wouldn't be a risk to our troops. In any case, we don't need to have cops armed to the friggin' teeth despite what over zealous cops and "badge lickers" would have you believe.

WTF? Thats a bold statement. Who exactly will be shooting these RPGs you speak of? Talk about paranoid.

So all men are not created equal then. Interesting concept.

I believe that Posse Comitatus was intended to prevent military force being employed by the government against citizens within our borders. IMHO, this is just the more obvious tipping point where subtle disregard for the Act and its spirit rolls over to become blatant disregard.

We have found the enemy and they are not is; but they work for us.

Oh, wait minute, we just pay them. They haven't really worked in our interests or on our behalf in quite some time now...

To understand this better, consider: Government of the people, for some people, by some people, all others can suck hind tit.

created equal? maybe. Equal later in life? definitely not. The day that I am equal with homeless drug addicts, rapists, freedom haters like you and other scum is the day I end my existence. I work hard to maintain my status as a decent, hardworking upstanding man. I would rather die fighting than see mudslime like you drag this country down into a socialist state where everyone is "equal".

Come on bro, who's shooting the RPGs? Inquiring "mines" want to know LOL.

Edit for fixed...

With the state of the world today it seems only a matter of time till someone starts shooting RPG's in the states somewhere...Ya'll know what I mean.

Reminds of this: Fire volunteers' dream boat is a major drain - Philly.com - Is the MRAP the most effective tool for the job? Is it economically viable to maintain and operate once acquired?

I think there are legitimate circumstances to roll out an armored vehicle for a SWAT call but common sense needs to prevail rather than "We have it, might as well use it on every call."

Totally unnecessary and it is driving a wedge between LE and the civilian population. It creates distrust to see police officers looking like military. We need to go to city council, state, and county gov. and demand that enough is enough. I'm actually disgusted by it and anyone who feels the police need this kind of equipment should seek counseling because they are power tripping at the highest level. I don't want American women and children to be so afraid of the police when these things start rolling down our streets. Just sickening that this is happening in the country.

How bout guys like the ones who flew into WTC 1 and 2. Good enough for ya.

Folks can get drugs into the country why not RPG's.

An intelligent response oh my.

Yes there are no doubt problems that should be addressed with LE in this land. Bitchin on snipers hide won't change anything.

They probably come in handy in TX. You can drive right over a 3 ft Guatemalan crossing the road and never touch him.

I saw the border state numbers and thought "those are places where they could use them". too bad they will be used against citizens and not the cartel scum.

Too ignorant a response to deserve a reply.

but you replied, I even quoted it. I like how you side stepped the original question. So here is a less ignorant question. Why, in your opinion, do we need armored vehicles in response to an attack with hijacked aircraft.

Ok lets see we have pretty much made it very difficult to if not impossible for them to repeat such a thing. But they still can take over buildings and complete general acts of terrorism. RPG's blowing up Police cars and helicopters would be a hell of a show on al jazzera.

So you worrying over theoretical terrorist attacks is okay, but the rest of us worrying about theoretical police brutality and oppression is far fetched and unfounded. The police force in this country has killed wayyy more people than terrorists have. It must be nice to live in your world, I bet its wallpapered in rainbow colors and the furniture is all made of candy.

You should work for FOX, you could spin a nail into a screw.

If you want to go to your bunker now...I'll let you know when its safe to come out. 10-15 years should do it.
