OK
Finally got my funds together and tons of researching together.
So this question will seem very noobish.
Would you start with this action or go a different route? Im piecing together the whole rifle,

After getting it trued etc should still come out ahead over getting a custom action. Is this the Rem action you would go with in .308?

stay safe.

Re: Is This Where You Would Start

It looked like to me the 308 is out of stock.

You would come out close to a custom action if you add in the bolt knob, oversized bolt and bolt fluting.

Re: Is This Where You Would Start

makes sense, thanks guys.

yea im not in a hurry. Hope to have everything maybe by the end of summer if not later. this is the 1st time i've seen just a Remington action in stock somewhere so I thought maybe I should jump on it..

thanks again.

Re: Is This Where You Would Start

If you went in on the Stiller group buy wouldn't you come out better than the cost of the same work on a Remington?
Also I don't know if you realize it but you linked to the .223 boltface action, if that was intentional because the 308 is out of stock disregard.

Re: Is This Where You Would Start

no I did not realize I did that, nor the .308 being out.

I guess my choice has been made already lol.

going to roam classifieds, thanks

Re: Is This Where You Would Start

All Remington 700 actions are the same. It'd be cheaper to just buy a rem 700 adl from Walmart and build off of that. You can shoot and learn in the mean time.

I bought a rem 700 varmint and by the time I sold the scope, rings, stock I had 250 in a barreled action. It'll shoot 3/4moa and when I shoot out the barrel I'll have it built on.

why the heck not? just robbing a action outta it.

Re: Is This Where You Would Start

Just keep your eyes open. I've grabbed sps tacticals for 500-550 new and used. Its insane what people pay for just the hogue stock and bottom metal on those things. Some people will pay good money for the barrel too especially if its new. So usually when I know a build is coming up I try to hunt for one of those and part everything off it. You usually end up with an action for like 250 bucks.

...or just get in on that stiller GB.

Re: Is This Where You Would Start

after you get the factory rem action trued what are the differences of a stiller tac 30

1. side bolt release(factory bolt release is crap)
2. stainless with a nice black finish(factory finish is crap)
3. better extractor ( function of the factory extractor varies from perfect to crap)
4. slightly less flex in the action (of value for longer, heavier barrels)
5. better deal on chambering barrels (200 per barrel when you buy the action, mostly goes for 250 + up)
6. great deal on the scope base and trigger (another 50 saved)
7, better resale - a "trued" action has a wide variety of success so ?? value
8 bolt knob and fluting ( if you want this )

Re: Is This Where You Would Start

After paying to have a couple of Remington actions blueprinted...I've got to agree with George63. I should have gone the custom action route...ie Stiller. It would cost the same...but I'd have the upgrades listed...and it would probably be worth more.
