With everything shutting down, and people being asked to stay home, the internet is gonna get busy

We already have seen an uptick in registrations, and we have been growing as many lament with the new users

    So, with that said,

Understand the members make the forum work. If this place is not working for you, ask yourself why? The systems in place are solid and improving. We are 3/4 through some pretty bold upgrades like the new front page with unified registration and logins. You will also be able to access the forum from the home page. So the forum and articles will start to share a common set of links to navigate it easier.

Also once they upload the new front page I am adding some new features into the forum.

You'll have a bit more flexibility with your accounts, like one example, you'll be able to change your own user name. Probably just Full Members, but for sure that is one forum upgrade happening soon.

Lastly, try to guide these lost souls, limit the trolling in the information sections and keep the grab assing to the Bear Pit and Maggies. It's better to guide people into asking smarter questions vs just blowing up the threads.

I need to add 3 mods, but I am working on an outline for the mods to get a bit more specific on their duties. We want to make it easier for everyone. So if you have or see a problem use the Report button found on every post. If we reject the report because you hit the button for "Foul Language", don't start a bunch of crap because things did not go your way. The report button is the answer we can handle it from there. We don't need citizen mods running around causing drama.

Take things to PM, Use the Report Button, Educate the New Members before you troll.

Thanks, this stuff will keep the forum running,

Wait for it 8 months and 29 days from now... mass baby murdering

The War of Constitutional Restoration may be well under way by then... Which brings up an interesting dilemma... When a Patriot regular army unit takes back a town or a city, what are they going to do with all the abortion proponents and providers that are going to be captured too??? They are not really active combatants and they are definitely not noncombatant civilians... Hmm... I guess the same group as spies, saboteurs, and terrorists then... Good. Do we have enough carpenters and lumbermen in our ranks?

    @lowlight

    Why let people change usernames?

Because they bug me to do it, many come on either their real name or something way silly, so rather than me doing it, letting people change it is easier.

More than likely this feature will only be for full members.

we used to have this feature on the old board.

I am 3/4 Finished with a new mod cheat sheet,

Mods are not a paid position but there are perks, many mods work with companies that will do stuff to help them, you can often get pro deals vs retail by telling companies you're a mod. You can't abuse it, I will shut you off if they complain, but being helped by companies is not outside the norm.

But currently, it is an unpaid position,

I am considering, when the front page is finished, having a paid position to post 300-word announcements and news items. So there is an opportunity if someone wants to scan the wires and post the press releases and newsworthy stuff on a more consistent basis.

Can I borrow the ban hammer and the wrench that can block individuals from posting in certain threads?

    Sounds like a solid plan....

And it is good to see the growth. Ultimately, means more advertising, revenue, etc.to go with the greater PITA factor.

Good luck with the growth... you earned it!

I told you guys, my first choice is MazerBlade

Let him exact revenge for all the years of you guys tormenting him

    :)

I think that 'crackling' sound I just heard was Hell freezing over.

Then again, Maser has matured and is kind of a legend around here. And his BS-O-Meter is finely tuned.

    There are worse choices!

    Cheers,

You don't have to be here 24/7

That is crazy, we have three areas to moderate and never recommend Mods go hunting for problems,

In the general forum, it's really just the blatant, PX posts made outside the PX, the other area is Reports, members should be using the report button. There is so much activity and movement we can't see it all. We rely on members to report issues.

That brings us to Reports, managing a report which is either reject or resolve, ban the parties, or resolve the issue. That takes some investigation because many are He Said, She Said, or it's hurt feelings report we just reject it.

Lastly is the Approval Queue, That moves hourly but I don't really address it until there are about 10 accounts waiting to be approved. In the morning you can wake up to 50+. but throughout the day you can sit back and wait.

Moderating is not a full time job, it should really just being managing the 3 areas of concern and now I plan on splitting up those duties

I want to be a moderator, and change my name to Thor.

If I can handle crying female Lcpl's and fence hoping restricted PFC's, how hard could a forum be.

Second Edit - Japan was fun, but man was it a headache at times.

As a moderator can you give a time out to every pussy that hits the report button for hurt feelings?
I thought that it's only purpose was to report the sneeky fucks trying to dodge the PX rules. Anything else should get a time out. Or an email dump of that file Sirh started in the Motivation Thread.

I'm a mod on completely unrelated forum with a LOT less traffic. I can't imagine what a pain it would be to be a mod here. Thanks for what y'all do.

"Mods are not a paid position but there are perks......."
Top perk is you won't get banned!
    ;)
I remember when I first came to SH. It was Dodge City!
Newbies had to have a tough skin. Especially with Larry and a couple other characters looking for every little slip up you might make.
@lowlight has it more like a love-in now.
Believe me when I say now is much better than then.
BTW, I have zero Mod skills and have gotten too lazy to care about any J-O-B since I retired.

I'll take it, I'm practically already unpaid by the army. It will just be more responsibility without any pay.????

I'm tired of this new generation. Whatever happened to the greatest generation. I would give up all these new fucks for one of the greatest generation

Which ones? The ones that gave us fdr and a big jump on Socialism? The ones that partied while the swamp was growing or actively participated in voting for more big gov? The ones that’s gave us 34,68,86? The ones that vote straight dem “cause republicans gonna take muh SS away? The ones that gave the country away and turned it into a socialist banana republic and blame it all on the “younger generations”?

I trust this brings peace and comfort to Deersniper, who has been suffering mental anguish about this aspect of the forum. :)

When picking mods, you can't run around and act like a fool,

there is a small amount of professionalism required,

Mods might not get banned, but they are reported on and that never works out for anyone

I'd love to see someone with knowledge like Cory T or like; guys that stud up early and had a history of calling out BS, even if tenderly when companies where way over hyping their performance.
