I've been looking around a for a used GAP, and just decided to go ahead and get one EXACTLY the way I want it. Put in the order today!

Templar Action
20" Bartlein 1:11.25" Varmint Contour (threaded and fluted)
Badger M5 DM bottom metal
HS Precision PST 083 Tactical Thumbhole stock (I already own it and LOVE it), replacing bi-pod studs with a picatinny rail

A Nightforce F1 MLR/mil will go on top in NF rings

Barreled Action/rings painted in milspec OD Green
Stock painted in 6 color multi-cam

Of course she won't be here for at least 4 months, but I'm psyched!!

Re: Just Ordered First Custom GAP

Sounds like a nice custom coming your way. I also have (2) PST083 & I like them a lot. The HSP thumbhole stocks in standard LOP fit me really well as if they were designed specifically for me. Make damn sure to post a few pics after you take delivery.

Re: Just Ordered First Custom GAP

Four months? Their lead time has dropped dramatically since 2009 then. Good for them, and I'm sure once people hear they can have a GAP that quickly, they'll be swamped again. Nature of the beast.

But more importantly, good for you on getting exactly what you want. I think it's so much better to do your homework, decide what options you like the best, and have a shop you trust do the work. You work hard for your money, you might as well get the most out of it. Looking at your specs, I think you'll have a winner. Congrats!

Re: Just Ordered First Custom GAP

Congrats! The guys at GAP make a great rifle.

Anytime that the anticipation gets too hard to bear (..and it will).....keep checking those picture threads!! They kept me going through the build!

I got my first custom from them as well, and they told me 4-6 months as well. Thirteen weeks later this arrived. I think that it was just after Thanksgiving 2010. You will love it. Mine shoots lights out. Enjoy it.

Re: Just Ordered First Custom GAP

I own 3 GAP rifles. First bought a Rock Templar in 308, then Crusader 338LM. By far the most accurate rifles I have ever owned. I was so impressed with these that I ended up ordering a non typical hunter in 300WSM for my hunting needs. It hangs in there with the first 2. You will not be disappointed.

Re: Just Ordered First Custom GAP

I'm no gap expert, but from what I understand their lead times vary depending on componets they have in stock and how long it take to get the one you want. I will say that the money I spent on my gap was money well spent. The first thought through my mind when I picked up my rifle was "why the he'll didn't I do this in the beginning". I threw so much money away trying to build a 1st tier rifle. After many mistakes and 1000's of dollars, gap gave me what I was looking for. I'm sure you will be happy.

Re: Just Ordered First Custom GAP

I'm hoping to get this Springfield National Match M1A sold to help finance a GAP .338 Lapua. After searching for the best deal over a 3 year span I feel GAP is the way to go. Congrats

Re: Just Ordered First Custom GAP

Last night I decided to make a change to my rifle. It was already in process so I had to pay a small change fee, as well as get bumped back a bit, but neither are really a problem.

6.5 Creedmoor
Templar Action
24" Barrel 1:8.5" twist (threaded with protector and fluted)
Badger Ord. M-5 DBM
HS Precision Tactical Thumbhole w/ adjustable LOP and comb - PST 083 (replacing sling studs with Seekins SRS Picatinny Rail for Atlas)

Barreled action and rings painted in Milspec OD Green
Stock painted in 6-color multi-cam

When all is said and done, she'll have NF rings (also painted in OD Green) with a NF F1 riding on top.

You are terrible for doing that to the poor guy. It's obvious he's still doubting his build options and then you throw another monkey wrench at him. Quit playing with his emotions!!!!!

Good Luck with your build, eleaf!!!

I'm not gonna fall in that trap!

I'm not really "doubting" my build at all (as in I'm definitely settled on the CM v the 260). I came to a better comclusion based on my circumstances. I have a 308 with a 20" barrel. It isn't a custom, but it will get worked over at some point in the not too distant future.

I simply decided that changing my build would be a better financial decision.

I'll have a R700 LTR in 308.
I'll have a custom GAP in 6.5 CM.

Rather than selling my 308 barreled action for beans, I bought a used LTR stock on the cheap (I sold mine within days of receiving it for the thumbhole that will be put on my GAP). Soon enough I can send it off and drastically reduce the price being that I'll be supplying an action to be worked.

I don't agree with that... 6.5 CM is an excellent caliber

For once, I have to agree. I think it is great.

I've seen the many debates on the intertubes concerningthe 260 v 6.5 CM and from what I was able to learn, it's 6 of 1, 1/2 dozen of the other. They are virtually identical in most respects. The only difference is age of the cartridge and available components (brass).

I like that Hornaday is open about the load they use in their very reasonably priced factory ammo, and that I can duplicate it at home without issue.

I also shot a 6.5 from GAP and was AMAZED at the performance I was seeing out of it.

Re: Just Ordered First Custom GAP

Congrats on your purchase and build. I own a Gap Crusader and am waiting on a can. I will tell you that it is the most accurate and reliable bolt action I have ever experienced. I have gone through all the different types of Rems, Savages and Kimbers and this is the rifle I love the most. I did cheat though I bought mine as a ready to ship so I didn't have to wait. When it comes though you will not regret it. I am actually planning on an M40A5 or Hospitaller build from them.

Re: Just Ordered First Custom GAP

I just ordered my first GAP rifle. Put in the order on Friday. Went with the Hospitaller after seeing they had two ready to ship that I missed out on. Luckily they had one to use as a spec gun almost built and were willing to thread the barrel and put my YHM flashhider on it as well as put a picitanny rail up front for my ATLAS bipod. Should be ready within the month. I'm running a Remington 700 LTR in an AICS 2.0, but can't get past all the positive comments about GAP here at Sniper's Hide. Debating on selling the 700. Not sure I'd get close to what I've put into it, and it never hurt anyone to own two .308s did it?

Just out of interest, anybody know what the brake is on this one?

Oh yeah, and if my wife can have 30 pairs of shoes, 2 .308's seems VERY reasonable!

It's an SJC Titan. It works great. I've used the PWS PRC on an FNAR I sold not too long ago. I couldn't say one way or the other which one works best since they are both very efficient. If I had to start over from scratch, I'd probably go with the PWS comp.
