Just Started P90X.... *UPDATE 90 DAYS DONE!!!*

Re: Just started P90X....

JRose - keep at it. I know it can be difficult at times. If you miss a day don't worry about it but don't stop.

Netranger6 - man that sux about the injury. I'm on week 11 and I hurt my back the second week doing yoga of all things. I tried to do one of those back inversions like a damn coffee table or some crap. Jacked my back up good....I kept on working out though and just worked through the pain over the next three weeks when finally it stopped bothering me.

Re: Just started P90X....

Netranger6 - Hey, man; you need to let that bicep heal before you do anything else. Otherwise, it will just get worse and you'll end up hurting yourself even more. Believe me, it's not worth it.

+1 on that.

Re: Just started P90X....

By week 3 you'll be a machine. The first two weeks are rough.

I took a few days off due to vacation, but I'm back in now. Start of week 4, do Synergestics tonight. It's a fun workout.

With 3 weeks down, I'm down 14 pounds and dropped a pant size. Get results fast if you do the diet.

Re: Just started P90X....

i Bought one of those pull up towers and it works great if you have the room for it. i am following the diet pretty close im only taking in about 2400 calories a day and it say's i should be at 3000 but that seems like too much. ive had enough energy to complete the workouts so far, so i think ill keep it in that range.

Good job!! Keep it up!.

Core Syn is probably my favorite workout.

Re: Just started P90X....

Did Yoga this morning, I think i was dogging it alittle because i had to fast forward about 10 min through one part. the moves were killing my back. im glad i did it though. it wasnt as intense as the last three work outs, but im definitly more limber today and a little less sore. I feel ready to hit it again in the morning.

+1. allows you to push yourself without straining so much. some of the twisting moves, triangle etc, are rough if your forcing yourself to touch the ground. also, if your noticing that your back is getting painful during the workout, make sure your not arching your back while doing twisting exercises. (yoga block helps prevent this as well)

Re: Just started P90X....

Nice work JRose! I am a couple weeks ahead of you, but also enjoying the program. My biggest thing is just getting up off my butt 6 times a week and learning portion control in regards to meal size. Keep up the good work!

Re: Just started P90X....

good work brother man good work , you can certainly tell the differance especialy in your face , not only looking thinner but younger.

over all how do you feel as far as energy and health goes?

Re: Just started P90X.... *UPDATE 30 DAYS DOWN*

Feel real good JJones. I haven't followed the diet perfectly, I've had to adjust some things and eat some things that aren't exactly on the diet plan, but I'm focusing on how much and what I eat so I think it's still working in my favor.

I have a lot more energy now, yesterday we did some RIC training in a donated house and I was like a bull in a China shop. Lol

I like that my spare tire is going down as well. Looking forward to the 60 day results.

Also, I'm going a lot further in the AB ripper disc without having to break. Seeing improvement is great.

Re: Just started P90X.... *UPDATE 30 DAYS DOWN*

Make sure you eating enough. I hit about day 50 and had lost 30 lbs from 210-180 but for the next 3 weeks nothing. Apparently I was not eating enough so I added about 200 extra calories and I started losing again.

Re: Just started P90X.... *UPDATE 30 DAYS DOWN*

My bicep wasn't completely torn, but the dorsal tendon is about 10 times thicker than my right one, and my left bicep is missing about 1/4 of the meat at the bottom. I just do light weight on arm day with it, but for the most part, can still do all other workouts. This is week 10 for me and the bro' in law, starting Friday.

It's getting easier, so I'm glad we are piciking it up. I can do almost every rep in the Abs, with exception of the reverse bicycle. Kicks my ass. I'm not dieting per say, but eating very healthy and in smaller portions. Results are great, and I look forward to it every day.

I too will do Insanity once this is complete.

Re: Just started P90X.... *UPDATE 30 DAYS DOWN*

I'm at the half way point. 6 1/2 weeks down. So far everything's going well, week 6 has been a challenge, it's getting hard to keep doing the workouts, loosing a little steam. I don't mind working out, it just gets old having a busy schedule on my day off, and having to carve out enough time to do the workout at a place that has a DVD player, and dumbells. I've pretty much given up on those stupid bands...

There it is, plugging away. Down to 192 and had to order new uniforms at work. Hopefully I've just hit a wall this week that I'll power through next week.

Can't wait to be done and be able to do a normal workout again. I do like the way I'm eating now. I feel like I have a lot better grasp on what and how much I should be eating now.

Re: Just started P90X.... *UPDATE 30 DAYS DOWN*

JRose,
Thanks for the post! I ordered P90x as a result of your post here. Ever since getting off an engine and moving to AC I have managed to put on some pounds that I desperately need to get rid of. I may have to hit you up for some pointer when it gets here and I start. Thanks for the encouraging and informative post. BTW I'm not posting my before and after pics!

Thanks JRose. One of our engineers did it but I'm not on his favorite person list so doubt he would be much help. We have a few guys that do Crossfit but for me I think the P90X is the way to go. Looking forward to getting started next week.

Re: Just started P90X.... *UPDATE 30 DAYS DOWN*

A guy I work with owns a Crossfit gym. It's a great workout, and I plan on doing it for a while after this. I just like the P90x program b/c it's an all inclusive program that allows you to set a goal and achieve it in a certain amount of time.

Last year at this time I was 228 pounds. That was a real wake up call to how far I had fell. Since I left highschool I've always been between 175-185. 228 was silly.

Go figure, a pissy engine driver... Who'd a thunk?... Lol

I've been doing CrossFit for over a year and I lost 15 lbs. I didn't have much weight to loose, so 15 lbs was alot for me. I tried the P90X for 2 weeks and it just took up too much time for me. If you can dk ut, stick with it. If you decide to start doing CrossFit, you may want to supplement CrossFit with some strength training or you will loose some strength that you have gained from the P90X.

Re: Just started P90X.... *UPDATE 30 DAYS DOWN*

I started last Monday and the biggest problems I am having is eating enough and how sore I get. I never have been a big eater so it's a big change. I tried a 6 egg white omlette this morning since I had more time to do it and it wasn't too bad but taking that much time every morning is tough. Anyone tried the protein bars they sell? I thought about ordering some to try for breakfast. Anyone have any suggestions on how to cure the muscle soreness quicker? It had been taking about 3 days to get over it completely.

I didn't realize how nonlimber (if that's a real word) I was until I did the yoga. Man did that kick my butt. I guess alot of stretching is in my future.

I'm down 3 pounds already in 5 days. Hard to believe after I eat so much each day.

Re: Just started P90X.... *UPDATE 30 DAYS DOWN*

Power through it. You'll be sore, but the first 3 weeks are really painful. After that it gets better.

I've been eating the GNC "Supreme crunch" protein bars, they're actually yummy.

I also drink the GNC Whey Amplified 60 drink. It has whey isolates with something else that is supposed to help with recovery. I've experimented with a few other recovery drinks and they work good too, but can't quite remember what they were. Neeley gave them to me, so maybe he'll chime in.

As far as breakfast, you have other options. I usually do a strawberry and bannana smoothie, or days when the tummy is growling in the morning I'll do a couple pieces of wheat toast with Straberry jam, but that knocks out my carb portion for the day.

Re: Just started P90X.... *UPDATE 30 DAYS DOWN*

Well today is the day! The box arrived last Monday and I opened it up and read through everything. I went shopping to get the food, snack, and protein items I would need as well as a couple pieces of exercise equipment that I did not have at home. I did the Fit Test and visited with one of the ER Docs and he said I should be good to go. I started modifying my eating patterns and diet last week setting today as a start date for P90X. I was even pretty good yesterday during Easter dinner not eating any real bad food.

I will probably be hitting you up this week JRose!

Re: Just started P90X.... *UPDATE 30 DAYS DOWN*

Good deal dude! Week 6 was a struggle for me. Week 7 has been better. I seem to be missing workouts more than I wish due to call volume at work. I'm usually able to double up the next day and get it done, but I'm curious as to how the day of no workout at all affects my fat loss.

I was bad on Easter yesterday. I had a slice of Tera Masou....

Re: Just started P90X.... *UPDATE 30 DAYS DOWN*

I did have a milestone yesterday though. I finished the entire AB ripper disc for the first time. It is nice to see improvement, I attribute a lot to the diet...

Re: Just started P90X.... *UPDATE 30 DAYS DOWN*

I'm just glad you are sticking with it and seeing as well as sharing the results. Your posts have been a good motivator for me to do get it done. I am going to start with working out in the evening and see how that goes but may switch to mornings if need be. I figure that the evening after dinner and getting kids off to bed has been my most inactive time so I should probably change that.

I actually got up this morning and was excited to start. I'm looking forward to getting to workout tonight. I'm sure my feelings will be different tomorrow. I was actually really good yesterday and skipped my wife's grandmothers pecan pie which is my favorite and the best pecan pie I've ever had. My wife is awesome and already a great help too. She made me a smoothie this morning, packed my snacks, and weighed out and packed my lunch. She studied the whole nutrition guide and is helping me to stick with the program.

Re: Just started P90X.... *UPDATE 30 DAYS DOWN*

With your wife helping like that it should be a breeze. Just have to stick with it, don't get discouraged. The first 3-4 weeks you won't be able to keep up with them on everything, just realize that. After half way though, you'll be amazed at your progress.

Re: Just started P90X....

Day one done and gone 89 to go!!
Not all that sore today but I know tomorrow will be worse. Actually looking forward to working out again tonight. Thanks God for my lovely wife. She has been great with encouragement and food prep/cooking.

After 60 day report...
---------------------------------------------

Phase two has been a challenge. I haven't been following the diet as closely as in phase one and it shows in my progress. I'm still eating good foods, but have been eating larger portions of the meat than I probably should have been. I also will have to just cut out eating with the guys at the station for the last phase. While we eat good on shift, this last phase of the diet is bizarre, and I don't quite know yet how to take it... LOL

I'm going to try to step it up for the last 5 weeks and really see what I can get. I missed a couple of workouts in phase 2 that I need to make up, but over all I feel like I'm keeping up pretty good. For the most part I have now ALMOST completely mastered all the workouts, with only a few weak areas I struggle in. I feel great, and my pants continue to feel looser every week.

I'm impressed, way to stick with it.

I'd be interested to hear more about how you feel different. More energy or just lighter?

What does a sample of your daily diet look like right now?

Whole lifestyle different, J.... For the past year or two I've had a bad problem with being a little moody and temperamental, most of which I've attributed to working so much and getting too little sleep (I usually avg 4-5 hours a night when on shift, if I'm lucky). I've noticed that nights where I actually get 7-8 hours sleep, albeit rare, I felt better, so I always just chalked it up to that. Now I'm noticing a change in behavior in which the bad moods are not so frequent on days where I don't get a lot of sleep, and feel absolutely great on days when I do get a lot of rest.

It's hard to explain that part... I will say this, I think that my lack of sleep is not helping my progress or overall well being at all... I've got to quit working 48's.

As for how I feel, I feel lighter, more energetic, happier, etc... I've always thought of people who were into the super healthy lifestyles were a bit masochistic, but now I get it... I'm hooked on well being. I feel so much better that it gives me the motivation to want more. I look at everything I put in my body more closely now, and have realized that when a lot of those health hippies talk about ingesting "poisons", that they're really onto something.

Core strength building has really impressed me. It's amazing how weak my core was, and how little it has taken to improve it.

As far as diet, I dunno... I'm still a bit flakey on that. I'm focusing on eating good foods, but I feel I'm still getting something wrong. My typical daily diet has been thus far:

0600- Banana and strawberry smoothie with 12oz skim milk
0900- Supreme Crunch 15g protein bar
1200- 11-15oz grilled chicken, 1-2 cup green beans, 1 cup broccoli, 1 lg range
1500- 28 almonds
1830- 10oz tuna salad with low fat mayo, mustard, dill pickle, garlic powder, on two whole wheat tortilla wraps with low fat cheese.

This is just an avg day, I have other stuff I rotate in and out, but in phase two it emphasis' protein, with only one direct carb serving... I'm beginning phase three today which is odd... It cuts my protein in half, and triples my carbs... I understand why more carbs are important, but cant understand the cutting my protein/meat intake... It will be difficult to plan meals with only 9oz of meat a day.

Re: Just started P90X.... *UPDATE 60 DAYS DOWN*

Way to go Jason!!!!
I'm halfway through week 2 and have already seen some changes. I'm sure some, probably a lot, of it is simply mental but that in itself is good for me. I have more energy, feel better overall, and aside from some muscle soreness I'm more flexible.

I am sticking with the nutrition plan thanks to my incredible wife. I was irritable the first week and seemed to get easily agitated but this week has been much better. I attribute that to the sudden onset of exercise and change in diet. With my body getting more accustomed to it now I feel fine and seem to be so irritable.

The AbRipper is kicking my ass! I can make it through the whole thing but at only about half the rep count they do. Found myself doing more reps with more weight in just about everything this week compared to last week....again probably some mental help there as well.

You are doing great and have been a big help to me, thanks.

Re: Just started P90X.... *UPDATE 60 DAYS DOWN*

Glad I could have a part in motivating you JC! Hang in there, the first three weeks are the hardest, it's a shock to your body doing stuff you haven't done before, or is out of your comfort zone...

After week 4 you'll come alive. Especially when you move from the fat shredder to the next phase in the meal plan. You'll start eating a lot more food and it helps.

Re: Just started P90X.... *UPDATE 60 DAYS DOWN*

Congratulations Jason! You're looking great son. Keep it up, you're about to the point that you've made the lifestyle change for good.

Re: Just started P90X.... *UPDATE 60 DAYS DOWN*

LAST WEEK!

Down 30 pounds, waist is a lot smaller, will have last pics up at weeks end.

The diet did suffer a little on memorial day and my birthday, but other than that, I've been <span style="font-style: italic">mostly</span> good...

After 90 day report... The Results!
---------------------------------------------

Last two weeks were tough. About that time you really feel good and start feeling like you don't need it anymore (also doesn't help that you can recite the dialog during the workout by this time...). I've started running now, and will still keep eating right and doing P90x workouts from time to time. My main focus now is to build on my cardio, but don't want to lose the strength I've gained in my core. I will say this, I broke diet a few times, and missed a couple workouts due to work or family stuff, so I think my results could've even been better!
