Just watching Joe Montegna on Midway USAs Gun Stories. The show is a out the AK-47. How come no one can pronounce the designers name properly? It is KalashnikOv not KalIshnikov. It is not that hard to read the word how it is written. Had a few beers so decided to rant here.

Late to the rant, but most people (and not just Americans) don't know where to put the stress on Russian words. Not their fault, just pronouncing it as they think they should as they see it spelled.

Example: Antonov (as in the aviation design group). Most pronounce it AN-toh-nov instead of an-TOHnov. Just a lack of familiarity with the lingo.

OTOH, it asses me up to no end (it shouldn't but it does) people who pronounce it MOIsin. There's no fucking /i/ (И) in there
