Not to be a pessimist, but the number of young men and women that have served since the WOT began is a drop in the bucket compared to same age group in the general population. Add to that, not all vets are pro gun. So IMO, the percentage is lower that 10%. More like 6 or 7. Hope I'm wrong.

Yeah, but there are a ton of kids who are not vets... but who are good American... capitalistic and hard-working.

They are out there. They just aren't Instagram Models, Boy Band Butt Pirates and SJW's. They are the silent kids who are working jobs in High School, deer hunt in the fall and are growing up Trump.

Back in the '70s... everyone thought we were done in the post-Vietnam Hippie leftist era... and then we all became Reagan kids and Hippies became Yuppies and got BMW's.

The pendulum swings. This time its getting a big kick in the right direction... from Communists. Who have over-reached again!

The reception those guys got was just plain evil. My uncles can attest to that. Most of my senior NCO's were Vietnam vet's and I will always be grateful for that. The treatment these men received plays a huge role in my political beliefs. So SIRHR is correct in stating the pendulum swings.

In my business the gene pool is real thin right now. Everyone who actually wants to work is working. Set up interviews and they are usually late if they show up at all. I had a guy who was working, schedule a late afternoon appointment. We don't usually interview late but he was working. He came in stinky, dirty and sweaty. I hired him and did not even look at his experience. He was a honorable working man and I figured that was a good start. I could teach him what he needed to learn. I can never teach character no matter how hard I try. But a man with character is worth teaching.

I have seen this as well and have been inestimably encouraged by it. It is really encouraging to reflect that we probably have more highly trained combat vets in the country than at any time since Vietnam. And these guys have excellent experience to go along with the training.

You hear a lot of bad things but there are still good kids out there. Heres a story for you;

My Wife recently went to Lowes to get a few things to finish up a kitchen remodel that we did. I ask her to pick up a few 2X4's for me. I told her to pick up a cart to haul them in and explained a little about how to look for straight boards, ect ect. Well, She was standing in front of the 2X4 rack, probably looking confused. A guy wearing a shirt with a construction company logo on the pocket offered to help her. He exchanged the cart that she had for the proper type of cart, and picked through the 2X4's for some good ones. When she checked out she left the cart near the door while going after her car. When she returned the same young man was standing by her cart, loaded the lumber for her and returned her cart to the store. She said that he was about our Sons age.

I would have liked to shake that young mans hand and the hands of his parents!

A portion, a small portion, has risked greatly and done great things.

Part of me thinks the wars have been drawn out to offer the chance for these good kids to "self select" for greater risk of elimination cutting down that class of people likely to resist the commies.

True on all points but something has to be done to make the powers that be understand war isnt just a chance for adventure and profit.

Fighting to win and getting everyone involved will ensure war is the serious decision it should be.

A continuous state of war is corrosive to society even though a tiny fraction is participating. Beyond its effects to the guys actually fighting it filters back into the homeland and the coarseness effects society here - in our politics and daily lives.

Fuck, we are "negotiating" with the Taliban. Why aren't we dictating what they need to do to stop their imminent deaths?

Im looking back on 18 years, the deaths, the material/financial waste, the debt burden on the future, great things done by the military tactically but nothing accomplished strategically. In fact if the strategy was containment of the ideology that brought us to war all I have to do is point out Ilhan Omar and ask hows that working out......we should have just given the Tower families back their boxes of bones and ashes, said sorry, moved on and rebuilt the buildings.

And lack of balls is a common theme these days.
