Anybody else have weak ass work speakers that lack the ability to catch all the musical nuance available at low volume and pump you up with a little Kamelot for example when everybody has gone home for the day? That long ass day sitting in a machine and trying to stay awake during harvest? Trying to punch out that last bit of code or design? Thinking Bowers and Wilkins, what say you all? If you have a bad ass mini system by all means share your pics.

Nothing special with this little guy, except my work partner knocked it off a scissor lift that was 20’ high, and it survived without any damage.

These are called Altec 604 E Super Duplex. One of the finest speakers ever made at any price. They were uused in recording studios for many years. You can pick up a good pair for under 2K and they will out perform your electronics.

As I said, they are some of the best all round speakers ever made, and at any (reasonable) volumne. These are made for quality, not quantity. If your looking for something less expensive but that will play loud for a few watts of power look into Klipsch horn speakers. You will need tube electronics with them though. While the same concept an audio amp is a much smoother design than guitar amps. I had a A Marshall 100 watt head modded by Harry Kolbe.

That’s some cool ass shit amigo. Would you take the Klipsch over Bowers and Wilkins? Application is desk top and what would you recommend for small tube amp application. You obviously know your shit, do you do this professionally?

Semi professionlly. Im an audiophile who makes a bit buying and selling. I did have the large speakers vuilt by skilled artisans.
As to desktop speakers it really doesnt mater too much at that size it wont really be better or worse but different and to your preference. I like horn type speakers because they are really quick and portray music much like it was recorded...but thats not to everyone's taste,. HOrn speakers are efficient..IE: play loud with little poser. With the B&W's you'll get a bit more detail and softer sound but need more power. If you want to pm me with possibilities Ill be glad to chat. As to good tube amps, Id go with an integrated (preamp and amp all in one) as it cuts down on size. Check out a site called US AudioMart. Yhey have lots of good used gear. Scroll down to 'Integrated Amplifiers' and check them out. There's one there called Cayin that I hear good reports about. Ill be glad to advise you before you purchase. Ebay is a good place to look

Here's a pair of Klipsch that would be nice for your desk.

You dont absolutely need a tube amp. If you have the budget and real iterest tubes are great, but they do burn out in time and are a bit more maintenance. A good solid state like my Creek will do nice ly.

Thank you Maggot. I’ll take a peak when I have a moment but really appreciate the info. How about for those guys in equipment as an installed system?

So I went to Best Buy just to take a look at what was available for desk jockeys and you called it Maggot. Klipsch was a clear winner. Blue tooth and comes with a sub for $179.00 range. While it doesn’t have B&W’s mid high quality, the overall package was pretty sweet and will fit the bill nicely. It was that or a mini Onkyo and $600+ for B&W bookshelf speakers? Was going there till I heard the Klipsch system?
