So I’m putting together my first serious long range rifle, and have gotten quality parts bought that are being shipped to put together a solid rifle IMO. Now I’m stuck on how necessary anti can’t devices are. I understand mathematically it can effect shots out past 500 yards but I’ve read some people on here don’t use them because they have a good sense of what level is. Do I need a level until I get to that point or is know what level is something humans inherently are capable of predicting?

if I do need an anti can’t device, I’ve seen accuracy 1st is popular but some say it lags. I’m partial to the flatline ops (scope or rail mounted) because you can make minor adjustments to make sure it’s level with your reticle, not the body.

any opinions and advice would be appreciated!

There are a few recent threads and videos on here about levels and the options surrounding the need/want or lack thereof. Some of which are pretty lengthy and address most concerns.

I appreciate the link but this doesn’t seem like a good option. If you mount it and it’s not level for whatever reason it’s useless. Plus it’s only making it level to the rifle, not to the reticle.

Can you link them? I’m having trouble finding them
Sure man. Here’s a few I pulled up from searching “levels” in “Titles Only” in the search bar. There are a few more if you search outside of the titles but I’m a bit busy this morning (I can only hide in the garage for so long while family is still in town).

A couple of the links discuss level recommendations, setup steps, causes of cant, why you should/shouldn’t use/rely on them, and pairing with the reticle vs the rail/stock.

Do you need one? No.
Are they solid training and reference aids, providing you install it correctly and actually use it? Yes.

If you’re constantly finding that you are canted, and you installed the level correctly, then there’s an error with your position. Use the level as a training aid to help you identify and fix those errors, rather than just constantly rolling the rifle L/R to level. If you find yourself having to adjust a lot but don’t know how you keep moving, film yourself going through a string of fire and look for the position shift between each shot.

As for which levels to consider, I like and use the Accuracy 1st on one of my scopes. I haven’t used any others but that isn’t for any reason other than I purchased that one.

You’re welcome man. Actually googling hide posts used to be easier but frank changed the search feature up a bit so it works a lot easier now. If you do use google, just put snipershide.com before your search words. That way you’ll just get SH results in google. Have a good new year man
