I know pics of one has been shared on here before but here is one of the lesser known M40A3 variants. Circa 05-06’ M40A3 with McCann Industries SA MIRS rail and Nightforce 3.5-15 Mil-spec scope.

Let me get that G655 action! Lol
So what’s the platform for the B67xxxxx actions? Former FBI actions? I see they are lug-slotted…very neat.View attachment 8784294
On edit: I was still thinking about A3s made in early 200xs, not the A1s that you noted. My oversight. There were A1s built with new receivers with B671xxxx serials
These are serial ranges for A1s built with new Remington actions that weren’t reused from original M40sB67 or E67? I thought the “B” prefix was the early to mid-1980s era. I took this picture at Quantico of what I’d guess to be the last of the A1s, an E prefix with a July 2001 barrel install date…hence my confusion.

Thanks for that info. The Remington Society is now defunct, but they used to have access to the Remington archives and could provide serial number info. The old posts on their forum noted the B prefix was used during this specific era:These are serial ranges for A1s built with new Remington actions that weren’t reused from original M40s.
…Chander’s DFA books don’t mention them, so I might speculate the B-prefix receivers could have been some ad hoc 1980s era replacement M700 receivers that might have been ordered during the M40A1 era to replace a few of the original late 1960s era six-digit M700s receivers that had become tired and out of spec with high mileage and hard use…that’s my personal conjecture. It would be interesting to know how many B-prefixes were ordered in the 1980s.The "B" (prefix) went from 1980 to late 1987.

Anyhow, it seems a few B prefix receivers made during the Reagan years snuck into the USMC inventory as shown in Skunk’s picture, but they are an enigma to me, given what has been published regarding USMC procurements from Remington. (For example, the ninety-nine M700 receivers ordered by the USMC in FY1992 are well known of course as the C-prefix receivers). Note: C prefix M700s were reportedly made from November 1987 into 1995; followed by the E prefix from mid-1995 to 2001, etc…per old posts re M700 production dates.
FWIW, here’s some random guy shooting that M40A1 with E670 prefix seen in post #861, circa May 2018. (The A1 that had a barrel install date of July 2001). The dirty lens in that Unertl scope were in dire need of professional cleaning…

Btw, in addition to E670 prefix A1s, seems that E671 also made an appearance on a “late” M40A1 (poor quality pic taken in 2016):

What is the clone correct sling for the M40A5?
