Been liking the MK6 for a while now.

After dieselgeek's excellent review, I'm wondering if a 18x will run out to 1 mile.

Intended use - punch paper up to 1000y, steel plates out to 1 mi. 338 Norma Mag

Thoughts?

I have routinely shot to 1600 yards with my 18" 6.5x47L using a MK6, I don't dial above 16x on the optic so had room to spare. No issues at all, but consider that I do not shoot paper. I would go with the TMR reticle if you are going to be primarily (paper) target shooting.

My concern is the range of adjustment.
The Leupold website lists that particular scope as having 100 moa of total elevation adjustment.
If you presume a 20 moa base and everything being well centered it should give you about 70 moa of adjustment.
Call it 60 to be safe.
Will that get your bullet to 1 mile with a bit to spare?
It also lists 50 moa total of windage adjustment, which seems like it could be a bit of a problem unless you are not going to shoot on windy days. One of the matches I shot a few years ago had a 30 mph cross wind and the shots were out to 1200 yards. Don't think 25 moa would have cut it that day for me.

While liking my MK6 so far I dont know if I would want 18x for a mile. Probably a minimum of 20x but hey Im a rookie and people with experience would know better. Im pretty sure in the DTA vid they shoot the 375 CT to 3080 yards using a Vortex 5-20x so using that logic the MK6 should be perfectly fine.
