Sidearms & Scatterguns Lever Action thread

MI rail is on order. Mounted an extra aimpoint I had laying around on it. This is my first lever gun and I’m in love!

What is the consensus on optics for these rifles? It shot so good with the aimpoint at 100 yards that it makes me want to mount a scope on it. Would a 1-6 razor be frowned upon by the lever action crowd?

I hope Marlin will make this model again I would love a 357 mag lever rifle.

I can’t think of a better setup. I much prefer the Marlins to the Henry’s, although I haven’t shot the newer X series so not sure on those. But the 1894’s have a ton of aftermarket support and can be slicked up nice.

Depend who you ask. Generally you have the traditional crowd who frowns on any modern attachment lol.

I will say the Razor is a heavy bitch and it makes the light and skinny lever guns feel like they have a lopsided brick on them. Because of how short they are vertically, they feel much more awkward than an AR with heavy optics.

A lot of guys like a 1-4/1-6 on them but I’d go lighter and mounted lower

Razor is a very nice scope but i would go would something lighter. The swfa 1x4 is a nice little scope i run one on a 10/22 and take it out to 200 yds with no problem.

See post #132...

It's super light and functional even out to 200 yards with the .44 Mag, so it should be capable at 200-300 with a .45-70.

In the last couple of months of 2022 I picked up 3 new Henry X models, 357 Mag, 30-30 and a 45-70. I have orders in for Midwest industries handguards and Chisel stocks. I gave my Henry .357 Mag Big boy steel side gate to my son. No picks as they all look like a Henry X model, black plastic.

At the suggestion of @Makinchips208 here’s this. I own this beautiful piece of history. It came from my great grandad to my grandad to my dad to me. Obviously it’s priceless to me. Still shoots good. This rock was 280 yards. Center punched it off the tripod

Love the rifle. You hit that rock with open sights? Wow.

Is it a Remlin or a JM Marlin?
Unsure. Belongs to a friend of mine currently. He took it in trade for a TV. 🤣
Said he's had it about ten years. Never shot it. I should clarify, it is used, but he's never used it. Told me it went in the safe when he got it, and he's got no plans to do anything with it.
Caliber?

I had a 336 in 35 Remington a ways back and it was a slick little thing. Some serial number help if you have it in hand for year of production IF it is JM stamped View attachment 8746022View attachment 8746023View attachment 8746024View attachment 8746025View attachment 8746026View attachment 8746027
It's a 30-30. I wish it was a 35 remington. That would be sweet considering I already have a hybrid 36m. Thanks for the info. That will be helpful when/if I get it in hand.

New one for me, Ruger made GBL in 45-70 sporting an SHV 3-10 with IHR and a Hybrid 46.

I'm hunting a straightwall/alt firearms season in October and sought this one out to avoid using a front stuffer.
This is the way. And the plan!

I picked up a 1980 Marlin 35 Rem several years ago and was shocked at the going rates for 35 Rem ammo. Had to buy a few boxes just for the brass, but it was way too expensive. 45-70 and 30-30 were so much cheaper.

How does it shoot/handle?
Haven't shot it yet, but will on Friday this week. The feller I got it from put 2 rounds of 405 grn cowboy loads through it and stuck it back in the safe. Lol.

Handling is great with the playing I've done. I would have no problem toting it for a long hunt.

Also snagged this one in the same deal, .357 SBL.

Love the rifle. You hit that rock with open sights? Wow.
From what I remember his first shot was high, someone jokingly said “come down 11 moa”
Then the second shot nailed the rock.
Rock was roughly 8” wide by 14” tall.
Thank you! I love that rifle too. Yes I hit that rock second shot. 280 yards and the front sight is very tiny. Also, you have to bury it in the rear sight or you hit high. I hit high as Makinchips208 said. Second shot was center/center. That rifle has killed quite a few deer and elk when dad owned it. I’ve not killed any game with it, but every year I say I’m going to. If I do I’ll have to post a pic somewhere in here

I have a soft spot for lever guns. I once owned a 26” octagon-barreled Marlin 45-70 but sold it off like a dummy. But it didn’t have the stories nor the soul of your rifle.
We all do dumb stuff

Had a 45-70 JM stamped; the stainless version with the laminate stocks. I look at the prices of them now and choke

And my ex FIL has my JM stamp 30-30 he just had to buy off me….

Sigh.

Yeah but you were able to give him his daughter back... so evens-stevens.
