is anyone using "lighter" projectiles in their 6.5 CM bolt guns? I'm looking at 95gr v-max and maybe some of the 100's from Hornady for coyotes at 500 and closer. I've got a few pounds of IMR 4895 and the Hodgden load data indicates that it's a good powder for lighter projectiles.

On a completely different note, anybody tried the Hornady 130 ELD M's?

Thanks in advance and God bless America.

How have the 140 class projectiles worked for you with IMR 4895? Or IMR 4451, Superformance, or H414? I have all these already, and Hodgden says they do well with the lighter fodder. Now if the 140's, or 130's, work with IMR 4895, this day's getting better. Also, I only have about 3# of H4350 left, so I'm looking for possible replacements. Cheaper replacements.

I asked about Hornady because they're around $35 per hundred at many places, whereas the Bergers are around $50 per hundred. I fully understand that you get what you pay for, but right now, I don't think the Hornady projectiles would be holding me back. Seems like there's a few guys who fininsh in the money who shoot Hornady. Plus I'm cheap.

Frank recommended 130's for 6.5CM on his review of the Detroit Rifleworks barreled action. I think he was using Norma golden target; I haven't found anyone who likes it. That said, his rationale on the 130's makes sense - heavy enough for visible impact or splash but light enough to go fast. FWIW, my barrel is 24". Just trying to be all I can be while being as cheap as I can be.

Thanks and God bless America.

Re: 95-100grn stuff for coyotes - no experience, but I don't have any concerns. That said, there was a guy posting about his excellent results on coyotes with the 130 ELD-M in the 6.5x47 Lapua thread, so there you go.

Re: 130 ELD-M - it's not my first choice, but honestly I came into a bunch of these on sale (something close to 20c delivered) and they're pretty ok. I've had two barrels now that will happily print ten shots from a bipod and rear bag into the 0.8's, I get around 2850fps without flirting with pressure in the summer, and they seem to get along with brass of lower quality just fine. I think they're great for practice, I use them to put a bunch of reps into working on stages with a lot of movement/burpees/running, unstable props, transitions, etc. These stages tend to have larger targets inside of 700 yards... where the 130 ELD-M is going to be fine. Not great, let's not get ahead of ourselves here, but fine for the job.

I've been happy enough with them that I'll probably take them to some local one-day matches in the winter after the main season ends to keep firings off my nice brass and wear off my nice barrels.

Unless you're heading out West to make a go competing at the highest levels in the shittiest wind conditions, go have a ball with the 130 ELD-Ms and see how you do.

Re: Cheaper replacements for H4350 - How cheap do you want to go? American Reloading has pull-down MP 550 ("Similar to Winchester 760") For $28.19/lb... Other than that, the VV single base 100-series have always been interesting to me when they go on sale, but it seems harder to find published data for those that's anywhere close to what GRT claims is possible.

I load The 100 eldvt and have had excellent results with varget and staball match. Those are the only powders I have Tried. They have worked really well on coyotes. Might even try them on whitetail. They are definitely not fur friendly. Small entry and massive exit.

The 95 Vmax shoots just fine and if you are looking for more velocity it would work fine. There are some other threads about loading the 100 VT with good data.

If you aren't after ultimate ballistics, or are shooting a gas gun, 130's will work just fine. While Hornady may not be the ultimate in match consistency they do make a good hunting/match bullet.
