I should put my 260 together this week, Been reading about loads, just got in some lapua 139s and a pound of RL17. Seems like 4350 and 4831 are the goto powders, but thought I would see if there is any extra velocity packed in the RL17 for a 260 so I'll load a few of each to start. Appreciate any help with your favorite loads. Will be using a K&M arbor press and Wilson dies which I just bought so this will be my try with an arbor press. Figured after 75 years I should see how they do. Actually only loading since I was 13 (62 years).
I got into Savages and a Stevens short action in 204 that is a real shooter. Got a complete 308 bolt, used 24" Douglas 260 bbl (looks good),Stockade thumb hole stock, SS trigger, tactical bolt handle and a 8x32 Burris Black Diamond scope that I got new in a trade 2 years ago. Note that the change out is only the bbl and bolt. JimDee

Re: loads for 260

My 260 likes 139 Scenars loaded at the lands, and H4350 is the powder, RL17 might give more speed, but someone I trust more words can say told me he could never get single digit ES/SD numbers with RL17.

Re: loads for 260

100 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip moly coated # 26100 bullet moly coated , 45.0 gr canister IMR4895, 2.940" over all length, almost no insertion of the bullet into the neck, due to the short bullet and long throat.
Quickload prediction 61,328 psi 3261 fps
chronographs as 3,236 fps

This load drifts more in the wind and looses energy faster than a 139 gr load, but it has the same trajectory to 600y and has better accuracy.
