I have a summit open front climber, an API and loggy bayou lockons that I use for deer hunting. In the past I have used pole spikes to climb with in conjuction with my lock ons. I went hunting this weekend on public ground and was told not to use the pole spikes, so I hauled in 16ft climbing sticks and the loggy bayou stand about two miles on foot. After arriving where I wanted to hunt I was soaked with sweat and pantin like a dog in heat. I may have been better off with the 20lb climber, but I sure like the lock ons. What do yall like better, climbers or lock ons and what brand/model? Thanks.

Re: lock ons or climbers?

I mostly use an API Grandslam Supreme climber. Sometimes, on our lease, I'll put up a cheap Gorilla loc on stand with some screw in pegs or climbing sticks. It's nice for a quick hunt without the aggrevation of setting up each time. I like the secure feeling I have in the climber with front and side rails versus a loc on with no rails.

Climber. I have always felt safer. I use the Tree Lounge. It is bigger and heavier than most, but that is the most comfortable stand I have ever sat in by far. I can sit in mine all day.

I have an API and a Summit... The API is a little easier to carry but the Summit sits better. I also have several lock on stands mostly over food plots. That way I can slip in quietly after work lol. They both have they're advantages and disadvantages but I feel safe in either one. Of course I always wear my safety harness.

Re: lock ons or climbers?

Summit Viper now that I'm older. But, like you I used 'tree gafs' and lock-on's for years until my knees decided thay had had enough abuse. I figured at age 60 I'd start using a climber. Man, the Summit Viper is a comfortable stand, I sometimes wonder WHY I stayed with those damn lock-on's so long...I guess I was young and dumb with an iron butt!!
