Looking for a possible alternative to Varget for both AR15 .223 (75-80grain) and 600-1000 yard (175grain SMK) .308 bolt gun.

I was originally thinking Varget for both, but wondering if there is another powder (for the better) that can be used in both of my guns?

I am hoping to stay with 1 powder choice for both.

Much Appreciated.

Nbdy,

N-550 or PowerPro2000 will work for both if you use 80gr. bullets for .223. I obtained similar accuracy and precision with both of the above. RL-17 may work well for you as well, it did not with my setups.

What you are seeking is RL-15. I am a Varget man, but I have a healthy stash of RL-15 for a few loads in .223 and .308.

Excellent powder.

I've been reading lots of good about IMR's 8208 XBR for both my .308 and AR's. Not just good temp stability but wide "sweet spots" as well according to many. Not as fussy as Varget over temperature and is also much easier to meter through conventional powder measures, especially Dillons. Supposed to be a finer granule, more like H-322.

I picked up a pound and will try it Monday in my .308.
