I have a Remington 700 tactical in .308 that doesn't see any action anymore. I built another .308 that shoots lights out so it got pushed aside. Thinking about trying SWFA or Athlon, as they seem to have some decent middle of the road optics. Also considering a fixed power optic in the 10x range, and I know SWFA offers one of those at a reasonable price point. I'm not a "cheap" kind of guy, but I'm not looking to spend a mint as I have many other toys I thoroughly enjoy wringing my money out of. I've never been behind either of the two brands I listed, and they both seem to have a stellar reputation here, of which I respect. Am I looking to the right area if I'm trying to be, say, sub $600? Only using .308 for <6-700yds, paper and steel. Maybe a mangy coy dog or two. Currently stocked with vortex viper PST gen 1's on 3 different weapons, for comparison purposes. Thanks in advance.

Wondered about the Mark AR....quality wise pending reticle choice. Tried a vxr patrol 1.25-4 and couldn't dig it. Maybe if it had tmr reticle?
The Mark AR's aren't spectacular by any means, bu they will definitely handle coyote duties. I've shot them to 800 with no issues from a 308. My VX-R Patrol is a 3-9x and has the TMR reticle.

I've got an Athlon 4.5x27 on my 6.5 that I've run in a half dozen club matches. The glass is good, the turrets feel a little mushy but are consistent. Zero stop is almost idiot proof... I got it set... Really like the reticle. For the money couldn't be happier with the scope.

Just picked up a Nikon Black 4x16 for my 22 and after one range trip with it. The glass is good very basic reticle. In mine I haven't noticed the " ghost " clicks others have mentioned in other threads. Maybe I just lucked out.

My 308 has a Vortex Hst 4x16 granted a 44mm objective but of the 3 it's the darkest picking black steel out of shadows is a challenge. The turrets feel the best of all but only 5 mils per rev. Zero stop is a pain in the ass w/ the shims.

IMHO I like the Athlon for the money you get alot. True zero stop. 10 mil turrets. Illumination. The same warranty that pretty much everyone has (thanks Vortex)

Good luck the budget scope market is not the easiest to shop. Just my .02

If you look around you can find a used Bushnell DMR with the G2 reticle, for the money I think you would have a hard time beating that optic even if you spent more.
Have been considering the Bushnell line. Like everything else though, cant seem to "pull the trigger". I would like to get behind one.

Probably beat to death, but, anyone have thoughts on SWFA 10x for all-rounder/all-purpose? Never had a fixed power bolt rifle scope, only gas gun type crap (2x, 3x, 4x)

If that is what you are fixed on then take a look at the Bushnell Elite 10x40 mil/mil and compare the two.
