Looking for quality scope mounts for CZ 452

I mounted a bushnell 6x18 with the mounts that came in the box during purchase. The scope is maxed out at 50 yards.

Any recommendations on quality mounts and mid-grade scope? I'll be up grading the scope soon as I'm able to put out the money.

I'm an avid hunter, but love bench shooting. I would only consider fixed power if it had mil-dot.

I bought some Remington subsonic rounds and was able to put 9 of 10 inside a dime @ 50 yards. I consistently had one stray.

I want to flirt with a 100 yards, but my scope and mount system is maxed out.

Question; is it abnormal to file down under the base of the front ring allowing me more adjustments for distance?

Thanks.

Re: Looking for quality scope mounts for CZ 452

Hogs you need to find a 20moa scope base from dip or joe bob outfitters. I'm not sure how much adjustment your scope has but this will help some.

Re: Looking for quality scope mounts for CZ 452

Can you give me better understanding on scope mount/rings 101 on 20 moa vs another? I understand 1 moa at a 100 yards is 1", and when a scope has a 1/4 moa you can adjust 4 clicks for every inch. However, I don't know how it applies with the mounts or rings. Someone?

Thanks again.

Re: Looking for quality scope mounts for CZ 452

I have a 2.5-10x42 Varmint/Target scope from Tasco on top of one of my 22's. It's a mil-dot reticle and 1/4 IPHY but for $70 the scope has been tracking repeatably for several years and several cases of 22's. I've been putting time on it as a trainer on wind skills out to 300yd.

I'm running an EGW 20MOA base and American Rifle rings.

Cameron at Murphy Precision makes an awesome scope base. He's a site sponsor also. Great customer service to boot.

Re: Looking for quality scope mounts for CZ 452

Hogs, what this does is induce forward tilt with the scope base. A 20moa is approximately 20 inches of elevation that is gained with this base(@100 yards). This will help get back some of the elevation you have already used in your 50 yard zero.

It is not uncommon for .22LR rifles to require some form of a canted base/ring for ranges beyond 75-100yds due to the large bullet drop of .22LR beyond 50 yds. It is also dependent on the total amount of elevation adjustment available in your scope and base combination.

The DIP 25MOA base($50) is half the cost of the EGW or US Optics base and will accept any picatinny style rings. It can be purchased directly from DIP as both the 11mm and 3/8 25MOA are currently in stock. They were out of stock for past 6 months.

I've also had good success with Burris Zee 22 signature rings with the Pos-Align offset inserts for my rifles I can't put a 25MOA rail on. The rings come with adapters for 11mm and 3/8 in dovetails which will cover you reguardless of which model CZ you have. If your scope is a 1 inch tube the inserts can be set up to give you ~30 MOA. The rings and inserts will run $60-$70, but should give you enough adjustment to stretch out to 100+ yds without maxing out your elevation adjustment on your scope.

Re: Looking for quality scope mounts for CZ 452

Rthur,
I think I totally understand it now. I suspected as much, but I wanted to make sure I understood before I spend $60 to $100+ on a base mount only to find out I didn't understand and bought the wrong thing.

I kept my target and measured the distance I had to hold my crosshairs from my target, it was holding 14 inches high before I could hit a 4" orange dot with consistancy.

I'm thinking a 20 moa will serve me perfect.

Thanks for everyone's assistance. I'll give a progress report.

I already had a CZ .17 452 which didn't require special mounts.

Re: Looking for quality scope mounts for CZ 452

CZ own rings are very nice that's what I have on my 453. Also don't forget to measure your rail it could be 11mm instead of 13 mm

Re: Looking for quality scope mounts for CZ 452

scsbronco,
Are you referring to the rings that come with the CZ purchase, or is there different rings offered? I went to the local outdoor stores; Gander Mountain, Acadamey and a local gun shop, nobody had any 20 moa rails.

So... It's looking like I'll have to order a rail and have it tapped in. I'll measure my current rail base before ordering.

Thanks

Re: Looking for quality scope mounts for CZ 452

I am assuming this is a 22 so you should have a 11mm dovetail to mount the scope. If it is a 17 I believe it would be a 3/8. This is the rail that has been mentioned.

http://www.diproductsinc.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=112052&CAT=3600

It attaches to the dovetail with no need to tap your receiver.
I would be very suprised to see one on the shelf of your local store, you will have to order one online.

Re: Looking for quality scope mounts for CZ 452

Predatornut,
Yeah, it's a 452 -2E ZKM American in the .22 LR. I've had a 452 .17 for a couple years and is my favorite gun in a collection of 25+ guns (buy/sell/trade often).

I've only had the .22 our once when I experienced my scope being maxed @ 50 yards. My review of the gun; I actually like my trigger, very crisp and seems to be @ 3# pull, but I know it must be 4# or 5#. However it's crisp enough to where I don't feel work needs to be done to it.

The wood is very nice and blurring isn't bad. The checkering is subpar and the trigger on my .17 is heavy in construction where my new .22 has a cheap feel to the trigger guard (a common complaint).

Anyway, I'm extremely excited to have the gun and shot two different bullets. Blue box federal (experimental) and Remington subsonic (experimental). I normally shoot Wolf or CCI subsonic out of my other .22's.

I had 1 stray for every 10 out of the Remington. The federal isnt worthy of shooting cans with.

Reference that base mount you gave illustration of; does it give you the feel of a permanently secured mount? Is there a chance of teeter totter motion in your psyche? Lmao do you know what I mean?

Thanks much
