I am in the market for my first suppressor. I need to do my research, but I don't know where to start. It will be going on my rem700AAC-SD in.308. It may also be used on my 7mmRM. I have no clue as to what brand, style, or model to look for. I'm not planning on spending a mint. Let's say under $1000 not including paperwork fees.

Thanks in advance

Re: Looking into first suppressor. Need help

Might want to look in to the Thunder Beast 30P-1. Once I PCS out of commie IL, I plan on getting one to use on a Grendel, 308, and 300winmag. Its in the $ ballpark.

Re: Looking into first suppressor. Need help

There are a lot of good suppressors out there, Thunderbeast and AAC Cyclone have been named, there is also Shark, AWC, and SWR. My suggestion would be to shoot as many as possible to decide what is best for you. If that is not an option, there is alot of discussion here if you use the search function.

Some considerations to take into account are budget, how long are you willing to wait, who has what in stock near you, what are uses for it, just to name a few. Its a Class III item, so prepare for 3-4 months of waiting on the BATF&E for your Form 4 once you buy it, and the $200.00 stamp tax. Its not a fast process, so delayed gratification is the key.

Yeah 30P-1 gets my vote too.

Re: Looking into first suppressor. Need help

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I'll research some more on these suggestions. I'll probably be using this for all my rifles until I can get another for the smaller calibers. So the first one will be used on .308, 7mmRM, 22-250AI and on my AR's. I'm in no real hurry for it so I'm not worried about the wait time. I will most likely be buying it from Major Malfuntion in Edmond, OK. He is only about 45 min away. I've only heard good things about his business.

Re: Looking into first suppressor. Need help

Bryon (Maj Malfunction) is a great guy, and his prices will not be beat. I will through in a plug for the SWR Omega 300. Used one on my 300 Whisper a few days ago, and it was impressive.

There have been some concerns with the threads on those Remington rifles being only compatible with AAC suppressors. Might look into that before you buy. I'll try to find the link concerning that and post it here. It was on arfcom.

Re: Looking into first suppressor. Need help

Liberty Freedom is one you might look into. They make a 300WM version. I've got a Form 4 processing on their standard 308 thread-on version.

I originally wanted a 300WM capable can but I found a NIB Libery Freedom on a Form 3 for a bargain out in Connecticut for $600 that I couldn't pass up. I repeat, a SS & Ti 308 can for $600 NIB on a Form 3...impossible to pass up.

Thunderbeast is also a good place to look. Good folks.

Re: Looking into first suppressor. Need help

Ok I need to let my suppressor newb shine through. All the research I've been doing is mostly been on price. What I really should have put in my first post is... What do I need to research on these suppressors to find out if it's what I need or not. I understand that the titanium made suppressors will be stronger. But what actually separates one suppressor from another.

Re: Looking into first suppressor. Need help

I have a YHM Phantom.....have been very satisfied so far. Less than $1000 will get you their new Ti Phantom. About 10 oz lighter and both will handle up to the .30 magnums. Best bet is to ask around for owners in your area and experience them first hand.

Re: Looking into first suppressor. Need help

should have put this in my previous post. I have the Yankee Hill Phantom 7.62 (not the Titanium) and I have been extremely happy with it. I use it on everything from 223 to 300wm. it is not the lightest but the price fit my budget. with it being a 30 cal suppressor it is much quieter on the 308 and 300wm but it does a decent job on the 223s. its quiet enough not to use hearing pro. Just my experience.

Re: Looking into first suppressor. Need help

What I look for is
accuracy first and foremost
POI shift how much and it better be repeatable
how durable is the can
weight
suppression has to be up there with the better cans

So we make the 30P-1

Re: Looking into first suppressor. Need help

I've been extremely happy with my SAS 30 cal can. Works great on my .308 and suppresses .223 quite well too. Believe this was $975 two years ago, not including $200 tax stamp.

Re: Looking into first suppressor. Need help

Listen to Zen Master Ray Dog....he knows what he is talking about. I own a Thunderbeast 30P-1 and you couldn't pay me to switch to any other can made.
