A buddy of mine sent me some pictures of the new LWRC R.E.P.R. gas port.

The previous off / suppressed / normal / adverse settings have been discontinued, and all we have now is suppressed / normal.

It would have been great if they kept the "off" setting so that the rifle could be run as a bolt gun (for those who hate cleaning the receivers) or with subsonic ammunition.

When were these changes implemented?

Interesting. I knew it was coming, but it's just been chatter for a long time. I'd guess that is pretty recent, as nobody has mentioned it on the LWRC forum.

My Google - Fu isn't strong today, and my searches have come up dry.

I wouldn't even know how to take the gas port apart for cleaning; looks like a bear of a job - compared to those on the SIG Gen 2 rifles.

Are the older gas ports that poorly - designed?

My older gas port never got stuck in one setting like some did. I took it apart and cleaned it a few times and lubed the shit out of it, and has been great. They could have knurled it to make it easier to spin, but other than that, has worked 100% for me. J

Unsure.

Less manufacturing costs?

I was contemplating getting one of these rifles - I really wanted the "off" setting.

They implemented this design soon after the SPR A5 came out... I remember seeing it in a thread regarding a special run of rerps they called "Thor" or something like that which was the first to get the new gas block.

there's plenty of REPRs out there with the old gas block.

I know from personal experience that you can clog the port by shooting too many rounds through it in the off position

I've heard of those issues - there was this thread I saw which showed pictures of how copper plugged up the orifice.

Is LWRC's gas port design iffy?

Not wanting to start any form of brand - bashing, just curious over first - hand experiences.

I really wanted to get one of these rifles, but wanted the "off" setting (for subsonics and extracting every bit of accuracy from expensive ammunition).

I've shot 1000's of rounds through mine and as long as you twist it in-between cleaning and actually take it apart and clean it, you won't have any issues with it.
Be careful taking it apart so you don't lose the little detent BB that always seems to fall out and get lost.
Great guns and very accurate. It's the most accurate gasser I have owned up until my GAP10. THe GAP doesn't outshoot it by much if any.
They love heavy 175's. Mine doesn't shoot the 155's very well.
