I am having a bolt built by PT&G and wondered if anyone could tell me why one is more desirable than another? The gun being built is a 300 win Mag if it matters in making a final/appropriate decision?
Thank you for any explanations/help. Dave

There is a thin and wide style 16 extractor. Ether will work. Defiance uses the thin style for everything. I have seen the wider style installed on 700 magnum bf. makes a little more sense to me to go with the wider style for mag and Lapua mag bolt face.

Go with the small. When using the large extractor, it increases the angle of ejection upward enough to possibly cause ejection problems by hitting your optics w/ the fired brass. I've had to cut the upper portions of the extractor down in some instances to lower the pivot point and ejection angle. (Last one was on a model seven 6.5 RSAUM build.)

thank you msalm and gewehr and Sonic, seeing how this is slated for a 300 WM Sonic I think your saying you'd be partial to the regular M16 style versus the Mini?
I have heard the ejection angle can be a prob on the regular, and from a novice point of view, the mini sounds like it makes sense in that it has more material left on the bolt face?
