Need some advice on this one fellas. Ive been looking and found a Springfield M1A SOCOM CQB with collapsible stock. So just wanted everyone's thoughts on this rifle. It's 1700.00 bucks which I could spend and get a DD in 308 but the M1a SOCOM with the archangel stock looks modern yet classic at the same time. I owned an M1a match grade in wood but sadly pussed out on taking care of the wood stock the correct way and sold it ( I know stupid but some of these wood stocks take work to keep up and wasn't ready for that at that time in my life). I don't even know if these things are even made in the US everything springfield has comes from the Croats. Good builds but I had a Helion, great rifle, couldn't find any support for it from accessories standpoint. Long post sorry but let me know what ya think good rifle or just get a DD for the same price.

Got a socom 2 used, rip the 47 feet of trash rail off, threw it in the river. Took the composite shit pile stock and speared it into a wall, put an old m14 stock on it, now it does pretty well when I dump rounds from the hip

The 18" Scout version runs a little bit smoother, than the SOCOM version, the SOCOM will not run without the special break/noise enhancer. The cheek weld on the SOCOM 2 collapsible stock hurts and the novelty wears off fast. Plus, I don't think you plan on using it as the first man in a stack of door kickers so, I will just leave that there. There are better tools for that job.

I have the Scout version, neighbor had the SOCOM, it didn't stay long, that's why I got the Scout afterwards.

like you I thought it would be cool, and fun, and do what I had planned, but that changed fairly fast.

Its part of his “artistic” homoerotic “firearm” work that he occasionally passes on to other Hider’s.
Who in part are overly aroused by the homoerotic overtones.

This goes for anyone who owns or has lusted after one of these abominations.

I suggest you check yer safe and start prayin fluffy princess!!!

i picked up a used socom 16” that a guy ran suppressed with extra power spring, a schuster gas bleed off and an AAC flash hider/can mount. it cycles just fine and surprisingly soft shooting but ya, loud.

i found it more pleasant to shoot than my ar10’s and ditched them.

now if i could just afford 308 ammo….

If you want an M1 to have an M1, go for it. I got bit by that bug years ago and got over it quick. They are cool to own, occasionally fun to shoot, but AR10 is so much better from every perspective - other than sheer coolness.
I had a hard time getting mine scoped, only to figure out it was all about the least terrible option - since there was no good option. If you want one because you want one, get it. I own several guns that are just fun to own/look at but suck to shoot (375H&H, 454 Casull Alaskan Guide), it is a category. And the poors might give you shit about it, but fuck the poors. (That was "but", not "butt", to be clear...)
